OBJECTIVE: To review the results achieved with the Mainz II detubularized ureterosigmoidostomy for urinary diversion in patients undergoing bladder resection.
METHODS: This study was conducted on 12 prospective patients undergoing radical cystectomy for urothelial carcinoma after 1996. All patients met the following selection criteria: no changes in upper urinary tract functions, normal rectosigmoid, no previous radiation to the area and good anal continence.

Fusarium species are saprophytic fungi that may colonize human skin and nails and may rarely cause invasive infections in traumatized tissue and in debilitated and immunocompromised patients. We report herein a case of invasive intranasal Fusarium oxysporum infection in a diabetic patient. This unusual presentation potentially can be confused with early rhinocerebral zygomycosis clinically and histologically. Distinguishing morphologic features and the possible role of diabetes in promoting this infection are discussed.

The investigation of architectonics of the vessels of the left half of the colon was performed in 52 corpses. The authors think that in carcinoma of the upper third of the sigmoid colon it is necessary to fulfil the left-side hemicolectomy, in injured median and lower thirds a resection of the sigmoid colon may be considered to be radical. Remote results of the operative treatment of 91 patients with carcinoma of the sigmoid colon confirm the authors' recommendations.

Experience with transcolonic Ureterosigmoidostomy (US) in 127 patients and colonic conduit (CC) in 152 patients is presented in detail. Experience with 37 patients with adult colovesical fistula over the past 19 years is reviewed. Specific guidelines for treatment of adult colovesical fistula are influenced by the location and cause of the fistula, the patient's general condition, the presence of a pelvic abscess and the presence of colonic obstruction. The rectosigmoid colon has a potential for a great deal of mobility and variation of position. This is partially due to the wide variation in length and distal attachment of the sigmoid mesocolon. When anterior or lateral deviations of the distal sigmoid and rectum are found on barium-enema examinations, the possibility of anomalous fixation of the rectosigmoid should be considered.

We have reviewed the CT scans of 30 patients who were evaluated for either primary or recurrent carcinoma of the colon and rectum in the pelvis. The results of our experience have shown that pelvic CT scans can provide accurate information regarding the extramural extension of carcinoma of the rectosigmoid undetected by other means. We report 2 cases of signet ring cell carcinoma of the appendix and colon. Case 1: A 61-year-old man was admitted for lower abdominal pain.
