[The message from heroin overdoses].

Drug use can be defined as a kind of self destruction, and it is directly linked to attitudes toward death and suicide occurring in a significant number of users of different narcotics. The aim of the authors was to look for the background of this relationship between drug and death and examine the origin, development, and motives behind heroin overdose based on an analysis of previous studies. It seems clear that pure heroin overdose increased gradually over the years. The fear of the police is the inhibitory factor of the overdose prevention and notification of emergency health care service.

Life-long coping patterns and bio-psycho-social predictors of individual responses to the COVID-19 pandemic-protocol of the Rostock Longitudinal Study (ninth wave).

BACKGROUND: When faced with adversity and negative life events, such as infection with coronavirus or restrictive measures regarding COVID-19, individuals tend to rely on the same coping strategies they have already employed in the past. However, habitual coping measures vary greatly between people. Differences in dealing with challenging situations may depend on life-long coping experiences and a wide range of bio-psycho-social influences. The major goal of this study is to detect persisting patterns of coping which in turn may predict how individuals have handled the challenges of the COVID-

Co-Design of an Ecosystem of Services to Support Veteran Well-Being and Reduce Excessive Alcohol Consumption.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol consumption among veterans has been shown to be higher than that among the general population. Excessive alcohol use leads to a significant decrease in mental health, quality of life and social functioning, further exacerbating veteran's readjustment to civilian life after service. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to co-design a transition programme to reduce problematic alcohol use. The objectives were to (1) understand which life domains need to be cons

Disrupted Dynamic Functional Network Connectivity Among Cognitive Control Networks in the Progression of Alzheimer's Disease.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common age-related dementia that promotes a decline in memory, thinking, and social skills. The initial stages of dementia can be associated with mild symptoms, and symptom progression to a more severe state is heterogeneous across patients. Recent work has demonstrated the potential for functional network mapping to assist in the prediction of symptomatic progression. However, this work has primarily used static functional connectivity (sFC) from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. Recently, dynamic functional connectivity (dFC

Gendered associations of situational and dispositional factors with exclusion from social relations and loneliness in older age.

BACKGROUND: States of exclusion from social relations (ESR) refers to severe social isolation in older age that is not always typified by increased loneliness. Relevant deficiencies in the social network of older persons may be gendered and associated with personality and socioeconomic barriers, with direct implications for older persons' welfare. Although the contribution of personality traits and socioeconomic barriers in shaping ESR states in older age are often debated, empirical evidence that addresses their unique contribution is limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine t

"It feels like I'm coming to a friend's house": an interpretive descriptive study of an integrated care site offering iOAT (Dr. Peter Centre).

BACKGROUND: Injectable opioid agonist treatment (iOAT) has proven to be a safe and effective treatment option for severe opioid use disorder (OUD). Yet, iOAT is often isolated from other health and social services. To align with a person-centered care approach, iOAT can be embedded in sites that combine systems and services that have been historically fragmented and that address multiple comorbidities (integrated care sites). The present study investigates the addition of iOAT at an integrated care in Vancouver, British Columbia. We aimed to capture what it means for service users and service

Predictors of Making a Referral to Child Protective Services Prior to Expert Consultation.

OBJECTIVE: Suspicion for child abuse is influenced by implicit biases. Evaluation by a Child Abuse Pediatrician (CAP) may reduce avoidable child protective services (CPS) referrals. Our objective was to investigate the association of patient demographic, social and clinical characteristics with CPS referral before consultation by a CAP (preconsultation referral). METHODS: Children<5years-old undergoing in-person CAP consultation for suspected physical abuse from February 2021 through April 2022 were identified in CAPNET, a multicenter child abuse research network. [Service system models for adolescent mental health in different institutional contexts and their implications for China].

Based on health systems and multi-level governance theories, an analytical framework of "policy elements-implementation mechanisms-governance outcomes" was developed, covering seven dimensions: legal safeguards, financial commitment, service networks, human resources, digital/remote support, inter-sectoral collaboration, and early prevention and intervention. Structured coding was applied to Brazil, Australia, Germany, and the United States. The coding evidence was limited to laws, strategies, budgets, and project documents issued by governments or government-authorized agencies; materials fro

A Qualitative Ecological Exploration of Black Perinatal Mental Health and Wellbeing.

BACKGROUND: In the United States, Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than White women and experience disproportionately higher rates of maternal mental health issues across pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Structural racism, healthcare bias, and inequitable access to culturally responsive care position Black women among the most underserved and undertreated populations in the nation and contribute to intergenerational impacts on Black families and communities. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to understand how Black communit

Suicidal Behavior in Women as a Risk Factor Generated by the Invisibilization of Their Affective Sexual Diversity, Gender Identity and LGTBphobia.

Introduction: Suicidal manifestations during the invisibilization of sex-gender diversity arise from various factors. The link between internalized and externalized LGBTphobia and suicide is crucial, as both forms of discrimination can increase suicidal behaviors. Informal social networks are vital, offering support and community, but they can also exacerbate isolation if not managed properly. Research Objective: To analyze the manifestations of suicidal behaviors experienced during the period of invisibilization of gender diversity, considering the interrelation between internalized/externali

Applying an ecological model to identify resources that aid peer support workers in substance use disorder recovery: A qualitative study.

This qualitative study aimed to understand the intrapersonal, interpersonal, organizational, community, and public policy resources that peer support workers (PSWs) in the substance use disorder (SUD) recovery field perceive as helpful in supporting their efforts. Twenty-five PSWs participated in semistructured interviews designed to elicit their experiences and perspectives on resources that currently support or could better support their work. PSWs had a mean age of 49.3 years (SD = 12.9) and were primarily cisgender women (n = 16, 64%) and White (n = 20, 80%). Interviews were audio-recorded

The cervical cancer screening and precancer treatment journey: a qualitative study of experiences among Zambian women living with and without HIV.

BACKGROUND: Zambia has the third highest cervical cancer incidence rate globally, and it remains the leading cause of cancer-related death among women. We explored the experiences of Zambian women who accessed cervical cancer screening and precancer treatment services to understand factors influencing care-seeking and access across urban, peri-urban, and rural settings. METHODS: In 2020, we conducted eight focus group discussions with women living with and without Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) who underwent cervical cancer screening between 2016 and 2020. To explore their care journey, p
