Lectin binding patterns in normal human skin were studied using five different biotinyl lectins and avidin-horseradish peroxidase. The staining pattern was specific for each lectin. Sweat evaporation is the body's primary cooling mechanism, yet the physical factors governing it are not fully understood. We identify a "dueling buoyancy" effect in the context of the human body, in which perspiration vapor reduces the near-skin air density, counteracting the downward flow driven by cooling of warm air upon contact with the skin. In hot, arid, stagnant environments, this opposing buoyancy suppresses free convection and can reduce sweat evaporation by more than half. Hidradenocarcinoma is a rare, aggressive cancer arising from sweat glands. Hidradenocarcinoma has no definitive histologic features compared to its benign hidradenoma, thereby posing a diagnostic challenge for clinicians and pathologists. This novel case report demonstrates specific MRI signs that suggested malignant degeneration of hidradenoma.

We report a 52-year-old man with a one-year history of multiple, firm, skin-colored nodules on the vertex of the scalp. Histopathologic examination was consistent with a spiradenoma, which is a rare, benign adnexal tumor of controversial histogenesis. Multiple spiradenomas may arise in association with Brooke-Spiegler syndrome, which is an autosomal dominant condition of multiple cyclindromas, trichoeptheliomas, and cyclindromas.

Previous reports indicate that a linear epidermal nevus (LEN) may serve as a source of development for additional skin tumors. We report an unusual case of multifocal papillary apocrine adenoma (PAA) arising in an LEN. This is the first case of its kind documented in the literature.

The surgical options for the treatment of axillary hidradenitis suppurativa are discussed. A new light-weight splint is described which will allow comfortable immobilisation of the shoulder at 45 degrees yet permit full forearm movement and adequate access to the axilla for dressings. We have found the splint of benefit in the management of this conditions by promoting the primary healing of split skin grafts.
