INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Although 'congenital' or paediatric trigger thumb is commonly seen in the paediatric age group, adult presentation is very rare. However it is crucial to acknowledge the occurrence of unusual manifestations of paediatric trigger thumbs, since paediatric trigger thumbs are considered a separate disease entity compared to the commonly seen stenosing tenosynovitis in adults.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 18-year-old young lady presenting with atraumatic locked trigger thumb, which was successfully treated surgically with intra-operative finding confirming …

BACKGROUND:: The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of tendoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of peroneal tendon (PT) pathologies … hology with PT pathology, and the other 7 ankles had no concomitant pathology. We detected peroneal tenosynovitis (PTS) in 13 patients, PT tear in 7 patients, and vincula thickening in 1 patient. The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) score was 76 preoperatively, and after 2 years' follow-up the AOFAS score was 96.
CONCLUSION:: Tendoscopy is a u …

BACKGROUND: Trigger finger is a relatively common clinical entity. The etiology is most often attributable to stenosing tenosynovitis though traumatic cases have been described. When trigger finger is associated with an underlying flexor tendon rupture, previous cases have reported a clear association with overt laceration or previous trauma.
METHODS: We present the case of a 23-year-old male active duty military service member who presented with a characteristic history and clinical exam consistent with trigger finger. The symptomatic onset was gradual, with no history of inciting trauma.

PURPOSE: To determine the incidence and reasons for hardware removal after operative fixation of distal radius fractures.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 33 patients who underwent removal of a volar distal radius plate from 2007 to 2013. We recorded the primary reason for plate removal, patient sex, body mass index, AO fracture type, and plate manufacturer. The total number of both distal radius plating procedures and implant removals was analyzed.
RESULTS: Of the 33 patients who underwent implant removal, the most common reasons for removal were pain (30%), tenosynovitis (27%), malunio…

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of pre-operative administration of ibuprofen on post-operative pain control vs. early post-operative administration for hand surgery procedures performed under local anaesthesia in ambulatory care.
METHODS: Candidates to trigger finger release by De Quervain tenosynovitis and carpal tunnel operation under local anesthesia were enrolled in the study. Group A received 400 mg ibuprofen before the operation and placebo after the procedure; group B received placebo before the operation and ibuprofen 400 mg at the end of the procedure; both groups received ibuprofe…

Mycobacterium marinum is a free-living, nontuberculous, photochromogenic mycobacterium, which can cause opportunistic infections in humans. It can cause infection through the skin that has undergone minor trauma, as the portal of entry from contaminated water, fish tanks and nonchlorinated swimming pools. It can cause skin lesions, which are either single, papulonodular lesions, confined to an extremity or may resemble cutaneous sporotrichosis. This infection can also cause deeper infections including tenosynovitis, bursitis, arthritis, and osteomyelitis. Disseminated infections and visceral i…

Since the 17th century, the long head of the biceps tendon as a source of shoulder pain and its functional significance has been a source of debate. Although the term tendinitis is commonly used, overuse tendon injuries infrequently demonstrate inflammatory cells; instead, degenerative changes resulting from the failure of self-repair usually are found. Bicipital tendinitis or bicipital tenosynovitis is most often secondary to impingement beneath the coracoacromical arch. Primary bicipital tendinitis and tendinitis secondary to instability are possible, however. Through a careful history, phys…

OBJECTIVE: To report the occurrence of paradoxical tuberculous reactions in two patients co-infected with HIV/AIDS, and to review the litera … ng of pulmonary infiltrates or appearance of miliary infiltrates or pleural effusions, peritonitis, tenosynovitis, worsening or development of new soft tissue lesions, and appearance of new contrast-enhancing intracranial tuberculomas. Avian reoviruses (ARVs) are ubiquitous and play a role in diseases affecting various organs in chickens and turkeys. In recent years, tenosynovitis and lameness emerged as the most frequently reported clinical conditions. In this report, we describe a case of neurological disease associated with ARV infection in 4-week-old turkeys in Alberta. A flock of 7650 commercial turkey toms exhibited neurological signs such as torticollis and ataxia that affected ~3 to 4% of birds in the flock. Histologic examination of brain samples collected at 6 wk revealed nonsuppurative encephalitis. A pooled brain…

The first extensor compartment of the wrist is a distinctly variable anatomical area. Anatomical variations in this region contribute to the pathophysiology and treatment failure of de Quervain's disease, which is a kind of tenosynovitis that develops in the first extensor compartment of the wrist. First extensor compartment of 87 wrists of 45 cadavers were dissected. The p…

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae and has a wide clinical spectrum that can range from asymptomatic to disseminated disease. Most women with gonorrhea are asymptomatic and if left untreated, it can lead to serious complications like pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility. Disseminated gonococcal infection (DGI) is usually characterized by dermatitis, tenosynovitis, and septic arthritis but rarely can also cause bacteremia, endovascular infections, osteomyelitis, and meningitis. Gonococcal bacteremia is regarded as a disseminated disease and …
