Osteosclerosis due to endemic fluorosis.

Endemic water borne fluorosis is a public health problem in Isparta, a city located in southern Turkey. In order to investigate the association between osteosclerosis and fluorosis, we retrospectively screened the results of lumbar spine and femur neck bone mineral density (BMD) of 1500 patients who were examined before, for any reason in between 2001-2003. Sixty nine patients (67 females and 2 males, mean age 52.6+/-10.2) with vertebra T-scores>or=+2 were found only except a patient with osteoid osteoma in the femur neck (femur T-score+6.64). Thirty-four of the patients could be reexamined wi

New formation of periodontal tissues around titanium implants in a novel dentin chamber model.

Direct bone-to-implant contact, defined as "osseointegration", is considered most optimal for long-term stability and survival of dental implants. However, the possibility of the formation of a tooth-like attachment apparatus around implants has also been demonstrated. The purpose of this study was to explore the formation of periodontal tissues around titanium implants using a novel and unique experimental model. After resection of the crowns of the maxillary canine teeth in nine mongrel dogs, the roots were hollowed to a depth of 5 mm leaving a thin dentinal wall. Slits were prepared in the

Three-dimensional finite element analysis of the effect of different bone quality on stress distribution in an implant-supported crown.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Primary implant stability and bone density are variables that are considered essential to achieve predictable osseointegration and long-term clinical survival of implants. Information about the influence of bone quality on stress distribution in an implant-supported crown is limited. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 4 different bone qualities on stress distribution in an implant-supported mandibular crown, using 3-dimensional (3-D) finite element (FE) analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A 3-D FE model of a mandibular section of bone with a

Eruption process of the second molar.

The second molar is located at the distal of the first molar, and we must be aware of its stage of development when we plan to move the first molar distally. Few researchers have investigated the development of second molars. The purpose of this study was to observe the eruption process of the maxillary and mandibular second molars by using 238 panoramic radiographs. The developmental stages of the second molar were divided into four stages: the whole crown calcified = stage 1; beginning root formation = stage 2; initial formation of the radicular bifurcation = stage 3; and the root length is

Variational Autoencoders for Generative Drug-Gene Interactions in Periodontal Bone Resorption.

Introduction Periodontal bone resorption is a significant dental problem causing tooth loss and impaired oral function. It is influenced by factors such as bacterial plaque, genetic predisposition, smoking, systemic diseases, medications, hormonal changes, and poor oral hygiene. This condition disrupts bone remodeling, favoring resorptive processes. Variational autoencoders (VAEs) can learn the distribution of drug-gene interactions from existing data, identify potential drug targets, and predict therapeutic effects. This study investigates the generation of drug-gene interactions in periodont
