Tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) syndrome: a case series.

PURPOSE: Tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) syndrome, characterised by the co-occurrence of tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis in the absence of other systemic diseases, presents a diagnostic challenge due to its non-specific symptoms. This case series aims to shed light on TINU syndrome's clinical features, underlying causes, and management strategies. The prevalence of TINU syndrome is relatively low with estimates of 3.5 cases/ million people with an incidence of 0.2 cases/ million/ year and it often goes underdiagnosed. The ratio of males to females reported was 4:1. His

Recovery of vision after adjuvant thalidomide in a child with tuberculous meningitis and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

A 7-year-old child, on maintenance chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, developed tuberculous meningitis complicated by progressive basal meningeal inflammation and abscess formation, in spite of adequate tuberculosis treatment and adjunctive corticosteriod therapy. The child became blind as a result of involvement of the optic chiasm. After 2 months of adjunctive thalidomide therapy, the child regained vision and cranial magnetic resonance imaging showed marked reduction of the inflammatory changes previously demonstrated. Progression of intracranial tuberculous infection, in spite

Choroidal neovascular membranes secondary to intraocular tuberculosis misdiagnosed as neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

PURPOSE: Intraocular tuberculosis (IOTB) can be complicated by choroidal neovascularization (CNV). However, when the CNV development is not accompanied by clear signs of inflammation, the etiology can be missed, especially in countries nonendemic for tuberculosis. We describe the clinical and imaging features of CNVs presenting as the first sign of IOTB initially misdiagnosed as exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD). METHODS: A retrospective review of clinical and imaging data of patients initially misdiagnosed with neovascular AMD later diagnosed with inflammatory CNV secondary to
