OBJECTIVE: To investigate the therapeutic methods of laryngeal condyloma acuminata in children.
METHOD: Operative treatment was performed in 43 cases of laryngeal condyloma acuminata in children. Direct laryngoscopy with removal of laryngeal tumor under surface anesthesia was performed in 26 cases, and trachea cannula, retaining laryngoscopy with removal of laryngeal tumor under general anesthesia were performed in 17 cases, hypodermic implantation of the removal condyloma acuminata at medial upper arm and submucous injection of interferon at vocal fold were performed in 13 cases at the same

Imiquimod 5% cream represents a new class of topically applied immune response modifiers that are capable of enhancing immune function. It stimulates both the innate arm of the immune system as well as cell-mediated immunity. It is currently indicated for treating genital human papilloma virus infection. However, because of its action on the immune system it shows promise for wide applicability in treating other viral skin infections as well as neoplastic and immune-mediated diseases of the skin.

OBJECTIVES: To present experience on the diagnosis and treatment of urethral condyloma acuminatum (CA) in male patients.
METHODS: Twenty-one cases of urethral CA were studied. The lesion of urethral meatus and intraurethal were resected by electrofulguration or operation and Urethroscopy, respectively. All patients were received intraurethral instillation and local therapy of 5% 5-fluorouracil solution.
RESULTS: The patients had been followed up for three to twelve months. Cure rate was 76.2%, recurrence rate was 23.89%.
CONCLUSIONS: Transurethral endoscopy is a reliable diagnosis and treat

OBJECTIVE: To describe the characteristics of various viral tumoural lesions and their treatment by family doctors.
DESIGN: Descriptive, retrospective study.
SETTING: Urban health centre.
PATIENTS: 225 patients registered at the centre.
INTERVENTIONS: The following variables were collected over two years: sex, age, type of lesion, anatomical location and treatments used.
MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: 51% of the sample were men, and 49% women. Almost half were between 15 and 34. The most common pathologies were common verrucas (72%), plantar warts (19%) and Molluscum contagiosum (8%). All

Skin infections account for a significant portion of dermatologic diseases, often resulting in, or as a consequence of a disruption in the skin's integrity. This paper covers the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of the more common viral and fungal skin infections. The viral infections presented in this paper include herpes simplex virus, herpes zoster, condyloma acuminata, and molluscum contagiosum. The fungal infections presented include tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea capitis, tinea unguium, tinea versicolor, and candidiasis. Once a diagnosis is made, treatment with appropriate antifu

HPV related pathologies are the commonest reasons for consulting a gynaecologist. Genital warts are associated with infection by HPV type 6 or 11. Etiopathogenetic factors and treatment modalities are reviewed.

OBJECTIVE: Few cases of verrucous carcinoma of the penis with foci of invasive squamous cell carcinoma have been reported and denominated "hybrid tumors". The accuracy of this term is discussed in this paper.
METHODS/RESULTS: A huge penile mass in a patient that had undergone three previous operations for lesions diagnosed as verrucous carcinoma is reported. Partial penectomy was performed. Histological examination showed a very well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) did not detect any type of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the tumor.
CONCLUSIONS: Verruco

HPV is the commonest sexually transmitted viral infection in the United Kingdom and as such poses a major public health problem. In addition to the potential physical morbidity associated with genital warts, abnormal cervical cytology, and anogenital dysplasia and neoplasia, the associated psychological morbidity should not be forgotten. Although our knowledge of viral function and disease pathogenesis has advanced appreciably in recent years, we are still some way from developing an in vitro method of viral propagation. Vaccination against HPV infection will hopefully be achieved within the n

OBJECTIVE: To examine information giving by genitourinary medicine (GUM) consultants about the use of condoms for patients with anogenital warts (AGW).
METHOD: 228 GUM consultants in the UK and Ireland were sent a questionnaire concerning the information about condom use which they usually discuss with patients with AGW. The survey was carried out in 1994.
RESULTS: There was a 46% response rate. Most consultants indicated giving information specifically with regard to the prevention of transmission of human papilloma virus (HPV), and not only in the context of safe sex. With regard to curren

Since 1982, in the Republic of Panama, we evaluated 5,400 women who showed the oncological risk (R.O.) in 59% and in which the participation of pure or associated HPV was 87.6%. The incidence of the HPV in our female population is 52% with a prevailing age of 20-40 years.

The relationship between human papilloma virus (HPV) and cervical cancer is in the process of being defined. This potential opportunity to understand a human oncogenic virus has drawn significant attention to HPV. While cervical cancer is a potentially fatal outcome of HPV infection, genital warts are the most common manifestation of genital HPV infection. In addition to knowledge of etiology, natural history, and therapeutic options, patients and providers need to consider emotional impact to successfully manage the care of patients with this common infection. This article summarizes current

A cross-sectional study is undertaken to determine the prevalence of male intrameatal and distal urethral warts, using meatoscopy. A group of 169 patients presenting for anogenital warts and a group of 74 unselected patients attending the Department for a variety of reasons during the study period, were examined. Twenty-one patients (13.5%) out of 155 patients with anogenital or related warts had external warts at the meatus. Of these 21 cases, 12 (57.1%) had further extension of their warts into the distal urethra. Fifteen other cases of intrameatal and distal urethral warts were detected in
