Children with severe, unilateral congenital ptosis are at risk of developing amblyopia if the lid obscures the visual axis. In this situation, urgent repair of the ptosis is indicated. These patients generally have very poor function of the levator palpebrae superioris muscle and a brow suspension is required. Atkinson has shown that early correction of hypermetropia reduces the incidence of esotropia. If esotropia is reduced by prescribing glasses early, the rate of esotropia-induced amblyopia can be similarly reduced; this would have important economic consequences. PURPOSE: To evaluate the Spot Vision Screener according to updated 2021 AAPOS Vision Screening Committee guidelines for instrument-based pediatric vision screen validation.
METHODS: As part of an IRB-approved ongoing prospective study, children were screened with the Spot prior to a complete examination.

Occlusion of one eye of kittens (monocular deprivation) results in a severe and permanent loss of visual acuity in that eye, which parallels closely the vision loss characteristic of human amblyopia. We extended earlier work to demonstrate that amblyopic vision loss can be either blocked or erased very fast by a 10 day period of total darkness following a period of monocular deprivation that begins near birth and extends to at least 8 weeks of age. The authors report four cases of methanol poisoning, two of which suffering acute bilateral optic neuropathy which secondarily leads to optic atrophy. The report the main clinical features of such a poisoning and the actual basis of its physiopathology and treatment. We retrospectively studied 101 consecutive patients with Duane's retraction syndrome. Eighty-five percent were unilaterally affected and 15% were bilaterally affected. More patients had straight eyes in primary position than esotropia or exotropia.
