Late Cervical Shortening following Midtrimester Screening: Associations with Obstetric History and Risk of Preterm Birth.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical significance of late-onset cervical shortening diagnosed between 24.0 and 34.0 weeks of gestation following normal midtrimester screening and to assess its association with spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB) and adverse neonatal outcomes. We also examined whether obstetric history modifies this risk. DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study. Participants/Materials: A total of 500 singleton pregnancies with normal midtrimester cervical length (CL) who were subsequently diagnosed with cervical shortening (<25 mm) between 24

Preoperative and Postoperative Opioid Dependence in Patients Undergoing Anterior Cervical Diskectomy and Fusion for Degenerative Spinal Disorders.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a procedure for effectively relieving radiculopathy. Opioids are commonly overprescribed in postsurgical settings and prescriptions vary widely among providers. We identify trends in opioid dependence before and after ACDF. METHODS: We used the Truven Health MarketScan data to identify adult patients undergoing ACDF for degenerative cervical spine conditions between 2009 and 2015. Patients were segregated in four cohorts of preoperative and postoperative opioid nondependence (ND) or dependence (D) with 15 months of postoperative fo

Prevalence and progression of radiographic ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament and associated factors in the Japanese population: a 3-year follow-up of the ROAD study.

SUMMARY: The prevalence of radiographic cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) in 1,562 Japanese from a population-based cohort was 1.9 %. The presence of OPLL showed a significant association with the femoral neck bone mineral density (BMD), presence of diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) and plasma pentosidine levels. Only one new case of radiographic OPLL was detected, but OPLL progressed in all affected subjects. INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to clarify the prevalence and progression of radiographic OPLL and the associated factors, us

Cephalometric oropharynx and oral cavity analysis in Chiari malformation Type I: a retrospective case-control study.

OBJECTIVE Traditionally, Chiari malformation Type I has been related to downward herniation of the cerebellar tonsils as a consequence of an underdeveloped posterior cranial fossa. Although the common symptoms of Chiari malformation Type I are occipital headaches, cervical pain, dizziness, paresthesia, and sensory loss, patients often report symptoms related to pharyngeal dysfunction such as choking, regurgitation, dysphagia, aspiration, chronic cough, and sleep disorders. In addition, tracheal intubation is often difficult in these patients. The purpose of this study was to analyze the morpho

Radiographic tracheal comparison among American, English, and French bulldogs via the utilization of manubrium and thoracic inlet tracheal indices.

Tracheal hypoplasia is a congenital abnormality associated with brachycephalic airway syndrome, resulting in a generalized decrease in tracheal lumen diameter (TLD). Radiographic techniques to assess tracheal narrowing have been described; however, comparisons of tracheal diameter among breeds of bulldogs have not been made. The objective of this study was to investigate potential differences in standardized tracheal lumen diameters among bulldog breeds at different regions of the trachea and determine whether breed-specific reference values should be established.
