Twenty-eight patients with 31 closed fractures (27 acute fractures and four with malalignment after conservative treatment) of the metacarpal bones 2-5 were treated with only one elastic stable intramedullary nail and followed prospectively. Treatment protocol was without immobilization or physiotherapy. These patients were reviewed at a mean follow-up time of 15 months for ultrasound results as well as functional outcome concerning complications, pain, range of motion, and grip strength measured with a Vernier-Dynamometer. Our aim was to correlate the health status with objective and radiological outcomes in patients treated by open reduction and internal fixation for fractures of both bones of the forearm. Quantitative assessments of vestibular hair cells and Scarpa's ganglion cells were performed on temporal bones from 24 patients with well-documented Meniere's disease. We present a case with spondylo-metaphyseal dysplasia type A4 characterized by ovoid vertebral bodies with anterior tongue-like deformities, widened irregular and sclerotic metaphyseal changes, short iliac wings, slightly short long bones and short tubular bones of the hands with irregular metaphyses. She also had bipartite trochlea and irregular patellar margins, which have not been described in spondylo-metaphyseal dysplasia types to date.

A modified method of tibial bone-graft harvesting is presented. A hollow, cylindric, hand-driven instrument is used to harvest the graft at the medial slope of the tibial tuberosity. Satisfactory amounts of autogenous cancellous bone graft are available to bridge osteotomy gaps and facial fractures, fill smaller defects, and even obliterate a frontal sinus. There is minimal donor-site morbidity, and complications have not been seen in a series of nine consecutive patients.

Thirty-five patients with lupus pernio were observed in a series of 818 patients with clinical and histological evidence of sarcoidosis. This analysis provides the natural history of lupus pernio and its associated clinico-radiographic features.
