Evaluation of a novel porous antimicrobial media for industrial and HVAC water biocontrol.

A novel treatment method, consisting of pea-gravel with a marine coating supplemented with alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride (ADBAC or benzalkonium chloride), has been examined for its antimicrobial performance and coating stability in aqueous environments. Initial column studies examining the porous media's ability to reduce bacterial loads in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) water found average reductions of 94% from pre-flush levels (106 colony forming unit (CFU)/mL) when assessed with R2A spread plates and 83% reductions with SimPlates. There was no observed statistical

Outcomes of Patients Treated with Prehospital Noninvasive Ventilation: Observational Retrospective Multicenter Study in the Northern French Alps.

Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) improves the outcome of acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema (AcPE) and acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (aeCOPD) but is not recommended in pneumonia. The aim of this study was to assess the appropriateness of the use of NIV in a prehospital setting, where etiological diagnostics rely mainly on clinical examination. This observational multicenter retrospective study included all the patients treated with NIV by three mobile medical emergency teams in 2015. Prehospital diagnoses and hospital diagnoses were extracted from the medical charts.

Improved results in patients who have congenital diaphragmatic hernia using preoperative stabilization, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and delayed surgery.

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is associated with pulmonary hypoplasia. The pulmonary vascular bed may be extremely reactive to various stimuli, and in the treatment it is important to avoid pulmonary vasospasm. The strategy in our institution since 1990 has involved a prolonged preoperative stabilization with gentle mechanical ventilation. Pressures have been kept as low as possible, and slight hypercarbia has been accepted. Peak inspiratory pressures exceeding 35 cm H2O have been avoided. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has been used according to standard inclusion criteria

[High-flow nasal therapy in severe respiratory failure due to SARS-CoV-2].

The use of high-flow nasal therapy (HFNT) in patients with severe acute respiratory failure (SARF) due to COVID-19 pneumonia (NCOVID-19) is debated. Given the lack of beds in Intensive Care Units in the Public Health System of the Province of Neuquén, their use was implemented in general wards. This restrospective multicenter study was carried out to describe the experience of using HNFT in patients with SARF due to NCOVID-19. The primary outcome was the frequency of successful weaning from HFNT and in-hospital mortality (IHM). Two hundred ninety-nine patients were analyzed; 120 (40.1%) were s

Physiotherapy Intervention During Level I of Pulmonary Rehabilitation on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: The progressive and chronic course of COPD, characterized by difficulty in breathing, can be aggravated by periods of increased symptoms (exacerbation). The treatment often involves in-hospital care and among the interventions applied in COPD patients, physical therapy prompts good results. However the most used techniques are not properly pinpointed and there is no consensus in the literature regarding its effectiveness. METHODS: A systematic review was performed to identify which physical therapy treatment was applied in these cases. The following bibliographic databases were co
