Effects of California's New Patient Homelessness Screening and Discharge Care Law in an Emergency Department.

Introduction California State Bill 1152 (SB1152) mandated all non-state-operated hospitals meet specific criteria when discharging patients identified as experiencing homelessness. Little is known about SB1152's effect on hospitals or compliance statewide. We studied the implementation of SB1152 in our emergency department (ED). Methods We analyzed our suburban academic ED's institutional electronic medical record for one year before (July 1, 2018-June 20, 2019) and one year after (July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020) implementation of SB1152. We identified individuals by lack of address during registr

The effect of an educational program on knowledge about sexual abuse prevention among child laborers: a quasi-experimental study.

BACKGROUND: Child laborers are a vulnerable group at heightened risk for sexual abuse. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention designed to enhance knowledge about sexual abuse prevention among child laborers. METHODS: This quasi-experimental study was conduc

IQ Modulates Coupling Between Diverse Dimensions of Psychopathology in Children and Adolescents.

OBJECTIVE: Correlations between cognitive ability and psychopathology are well recognized, but prior research has been limited by focusing on individuals with intellectual disability, single-diagnosis psychiatric populations, or few measures of psychopathology. METHOD: A total of 70 dimensional measures of psychopathology, plus IQ and demographic data, were coll

Purpose This study delves into the epidemiology of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection and its link to precancerous lesions among perimenopausal (40-59 years) and elderly (60-65 years) women in a Chinese county with a notably high incidence of cervical cancer. By uniquely focusing on these age groups in underdeveloped regions, the research aims to offer novel strategies for the management and prevention of cervical cancer. It seeks to inform targeted interventions and public health policies that could significantly benefit women at heightened risk for HPV, addressing a critical g

Cognitive-psychological mechanisms and decision-making in later life: the role of wealth perception capability.

INTRODUCTION: Decision-making in later life is shaped not only by physiological decline but also by the joint influence of cognitive and psychological factors. This study focuses on wealth perception capability and examines how older adults' subjective perceptions of their own financial circumstances affect their engagement in decision-making. By moving beyond the conventional emphasis on physical aging and functional decline, this study seeks to extend our understanding of the cognitive-psychological mechanisms underlying decision-making in later life. METHODS: Using micro-level survey data

Digital Interventions to Enhance Readiness for Psychological Therapy: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Psychological therapy is an effective treatment method for mental illness; however, many people with mental illness do not seek treatment or drop out of treatment early. Increasing client uptake and engagement in therapy is key to addressing the escalating global problem of mental illness. Attitudinal barriers, such as a lack of motivation, are a leading cause of low engagement in therapy. Digital interventions to increase motivation and readiness for change hold promise as accessible and scalable solutions; however, little is known about the range of interventions being used and t

Treatment of borderline patients: a pragmatic approach.

Outlined in the preceding sections are what one could call the ABCDs of treating borderline patients. A = analytically informed psychotherapy; B = behavior therapy; C = cognitive therapy; and D = drug therapy. Together they add up to "E": eclectic therapy. In this pragmatic approach, the therapist will assess at the outset (1) amenability to exploratory therapy, but also (2) the need for supportive measures, including education, rehabilitation, and expansion of outside interests, (3) indications for behavioral technics (socially alienating habits, handwashing compulsions, phobias), (4) indicat

This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of orthorexic tendencies and their associated factors among individuals attending a diet outpatient clinic. METHODS: A cross-sectional
