A Modern Series of Secondary Aortoenteric Fistula - A 19-Year Experience.

OBJECTIVES: Secondary aortoenteric fistula is a rare and life-threatening condition. Clear evidence on the ideal therapeutic approach is largely missing. This study aims to analyze symptoms, etiology, risk factors, and outcomes based on procedural details. PATIENTS AND METHODS: All patients with secondary aortoenteric fistula admitted between 2003 and 2021 were included. Patient characteristics, surgical procedure details, and postoperative outcomes were analyzed. Outcomes were stratified and compared according to the urgency of operation and the procedure performed. Descriptive statistics we

[Negative pressure system in the treatment of enterocutaneous fistulas in the pediatric population].

AIM OF THE STUDY: The management of children with enterocutaneous fistulas (EF) along with large abdominal wall defects secondary to multiple surgical interventions can be difficult and sometimes lead to intestinal failure (IF). The aim of this study is to present the results of negative pressure systems and their properties (edema reduction angiogenesis promotion and granulation tissue formation) in children with enterocutaneous fistulas (EF) and their prognosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of children with refractory, high output EF treated with NPS between 2008-2014. Ou

15-year history of spontaneous appendico-vesical fistula (case report).

Appendicovesical (AVF) fistula is rare complication in the modern era. Only a few cases of AVF were described in the literature of the last decade. AVF is meanly associated with a history of appendicitis. The guiding symptoms are coprosuria and pneumaturia, with recurrent infection of the urinary tract. The accurate pre-operative diagnosis is difficult to make. It usually took at least one year from the onset of symptom to confirm diagnosis. It has been reported a few cases of 15 year history of undiagnosed AVF. We represent a case of EVF, spontaneously developed after treated acute appendicul

MR enterography of ileocolovesicular fistula in pediatric Crohn disease.

Crohn disease, a form of chronic inflammatory bowel disease is characterized by discontinuous inflammatory lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, has a variety of behavioral patterns, including penetrating or fistulous disease. While magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) excellently depicts inflamed bowel segments, it can also be used to assess for a variety of Crohn-disease-related extraintestinal complications, including fistulae. We present the MRE findings of a complex ileocolovesicular fistula in a 14-year-old boy with Crohn disease, where the fistulous tract to the urinary bladder was be

Successful laparoscopic management for cholecystoenteric fistula.

AIM: Since 1987, laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) has been widely used as the favored treatment for gallbladder lesions. Cholecystoenteric fistula (CF) is an uncommon complication of the gallbladder disease, which has been one of the reasons for the conversion from LC to open cholecystectomy. Here, we have reported four cases of CF managed successfully by laparoscopic approach without conversion to open cholecystectomy. METHODS: During the 4-year period from 2000 to 2004, the medical records of the four patients with CF treated successfully with laparoscopic management at the Chang Gung Memo

Preoperative diagnosis of colouterine fistula secondary to diverticulitis by sonohysterography with contrast medium.

Colouterine fistulae secondary to sigmoid diverticulitis are unusual. Methods for diagnosis remain to be established. We report a case with a colouterine fistula in which sonohysterography detected the flow of ultrasound contrast medium between the uterine cavity and the sigmoid colon through the posterior uterine wall, thus confirming the diagnosis. The diagnosis was further substantiated by a charcoal challenge test. The patient underwent en bloc resection of the uterus, Fallopian tubes, ovaries and sigmoid colon, the organs involved with diverticulitis. This is the first report to describe

Infliximab treatment of Crohn disease ileovesical fistula.

Ileovesical fistula is a rare inaugural complication of Crohn disease. Current approaches associate antibiotics, total parenteral nutrition and various combinations of immunomodulatory agents. However, only a minority of fistulas subside under conventional treatment, as most of them ultimately require complex surgery to excise and close the structures involved. We report the case of a 31-year-old patient successfully treated by targeting the local production of tumour necrosis factor alpha with infliximab.

Primary aortojejunal fistula: a case report.

Primary aortoenteric fistulae (AEFs) are extremely rare vascular entities, with fewer than 250 cases reported in the world medical literature as of 1996. Incidence is less than 1 per cent, with a mortality ranging from 33 to 85 per cent. Atherosclerosis remains the most common etiology, accounting for more than two-thirds of the cases reported. Other etiologies include carcinoma, ulcers, gallstones, diverticulitis, appendicitis, and foreign bodies. Early diagnosis is crucial for survival and mandates recognition of the typical "herald bleed." Additional findings on initial presentation frequen

[Usefulness of magnetic resonance imaging for the diagnosis of sigmoidovesical fistula: report of a case].

A 70-year-old man was given a diagnosis of sigmoidovesical fistula due to diverticulitis through the combination of examinations including cystoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, barium enema, urogram, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Among these, MRI was the most useful for the direct detection of the fistula in T1 weighted images and the confirmation of the lesion in T2 weighted images.

[A case of colo-vesico-vaginal fistula caused by sigmoid colon diverticulitis].

A 74-year-old woman was referred to our hospital with the chief complaints of pneumaturia, fecaluria and discharge of feces and urine from vagina. Fistulography on the vaginal side showed the presence of contrast medium both in the sigmoid colon and bladder. Colonoscopy revealed multiple diverticulosis of the sigmoid colon. Under diagnosis of colo-vesico-vaginal fistula due to sigmoid colon diverticulitis, a one-stage operation removing sigmoid colon, uterus-vaginal wall and urinary bladder wall including the fistula and careful reconstruction was performed. Postoperatively, urinary leakage fr

[Sigmoid-vesical fistula as a consequence of sigmoid tumor].

Because of unusual rarity of neoplastic sigmoid-vesical fistula in young patients the case of 43 years old woman, in whom the fistula was the consequence of sigmoid adenocarcinoma infiltration of urinary bladder, was presented. The patient was treated radically by resection of the sigmoid and partial resection of the urinary bladder within healthy tissue. After operation the patient was exposed to radiotherapy, after which chemotherapy followed (6 courses of 5-day chemotherapy with fluorouracil and calcium folinate). 18 months after operation, 16 months after radiotherapy and 14 after chemothe
