We present a long-term review of a girl aged 11 years and 4 months with medial primary recurrent subluxation of both patellae of several months evolution associated with miserably malalignment syndrome. Not one case of medial recurrent dislocation of the patellae has been described previously. Three years previously following a jump she had suffered a right patellar luxation - self-reduced and not immobilised - followed by 10 subsequent episodes of subluxation and three more medial luxations. She could hardly walk autonomously due to persistent or habitual subluxation and patellofemoral pain,

BACKGROUND: Proper patellofemoral alignment is an important goal in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Acceptable patellar alignment is defined as patellar tilt less than or equal to 5° and patellar displacement less than or equal to 5 mm. Previous studies reported an incidence of post-operative patellar malalignment in TKA from 7 to 35%. However, correlation between patellar malalignment and clinical outcome after TKA remains unclear. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of patellar tilt and displacement on the clinical outcome of TKA.
METHODS: A retrospective review of 13

The patellofemoral (PF) joint plays an integral role in knee biomechanics. Disorders of the PF joint are prevalent and a common source of anterior knee pain, particularly in younger and active patients. Abnormalities related to patellar tracking can lead to recurrent lateral patellar dislocation, early degenerative changes, and poor clinical outcomes if not detected and treated appropriately. Therefore, early recognition of PF instability is imperative to preserving joint function and improving long-term patient outcomes. Several alignment and morphological abnormalities are known risk factors

Besides the osseous structures and the muscular elements, the capsular and ligamentous apparatus, including the limbus genoidalis, is of utmost importance for the stability of the shoulder-joint. In the literature the limbus glenoidalis (L.G.) is generally described as a fibrocartilagineous structure comparable to the menisci of the knee-joint. Basically, the cause of a primary foreful shoulder-dislocation may be either a direct or an indirect trauma. The lesions during luxation concern the joint's capsula, the L.G. and the head of the humerus. However, in the literature one finds many differe

Closed injuries involving peripheral nerves are likely to occur in a severely comminuted fracture, a dislocated or stretched joint, or a fracture adjacent to a joint. Peripheral neuropathy associated with fractures are usually neurapraxia lesions and have an excellent prognosis for spontaneous recovery. Peripheral neuropathy associated with open injuries has a prognosis related to the etiology; lacerations are usually neurotmesis lesions and should be completely examined, explored, and sutured; shotgun wounds demand debridement and visualization of involved peripheral nerves; high-velocity mis

BACKGROUND: Lateral patellar dislocation is frequently observed among teenagers and young adults. There is no consensus on the best type of graft or fixation strategy for the femur and patella, and complications such as iatrogenic patella fracture, tunnel malposition, and grafting failure are common. The objective of our research is to find out the functional outcome of a new method of medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, which involves two key components: (1) patellar fixation is accomplished by suturing the two limbs of the looped doubled hamstring graft in a divergent fashi

BACKGROUND: In total knee arthroplasty (TKA), advances in posterior-stabilized (PS) knee implant designs address patellofemoral mechanics and cam-post engagement in an effort to reduce patellofemoral pain and improve knee kinematics. Such modifications may include improved femoral rollback, improved femoral dislocation resistance, minimized wear, and improved longevity.
QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: In this study, we compared a newer PS knee design that incorporates a left and right specific femoral component and smoother trochlear groove to improve patellofemoral mechanics with an older PS design in o

Patellofemoral instability is a spectrum of disorders in which the patella loses normal tracking within the trochlear groove, presenting as subluxation or dislocation. Accurate quantification is essential for guiding treatment, yet no unified clinical and imaging scoring system exists. Patient-reported outcome measures remain inconsistent, with frequent reliance on general knee scores rather than tools specifically designed for patellofemoral instability. Imaging assessment requires multiple parameters, including patellar height, tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove distance, and trochlear morph

The purpose of this study was to present a medial plication using an arthroscopic all-inside technique for the treatment of patellar instability in adolescents. From July 2009 to June 2012, 19 patients with acute patellar dislocation were operated by this technique. Of these patients, follow-up was available in 17 patients at an average of 3 years (range: 1.5-4 years). At the follow-up, we evaluated the patients with physical examinations, radiographs, computed tomography scan, as well as the Lysholm and Kujala scoring scales. No recurrence of patellar instability has been found. The recovery
