This is a case report of a 21-year-old man who had a gradually progressive Class III malocclusion and crepitation of the right temporomandibular joint. Routine TMJ tomograms revealed a radiopaque-radiolucent lesion of the right mandibular condyle with a compensatory anteroinferior displacement of the left mandibular condyle. Nuclear bone scans confirmed increased asymmetric technetium 99 tracer uptake in the region of the right temporomandibular joint. A two-stage surgical approach was undertaken; this consisted of excision of the condylar lesion to correct the Class III malocclusion and poste

Experience with patients referred to the Dentofacial Clinic at the University of North Carolina indicates that previous fracture of the mandibular condylar process may be involved in 5 to 10 percent of all severe mandibular deficiency or asymmetry problems. Since these fractures often go undiagnosed and since three fourths of the children with fractures have no growth deficits, the incidence of condylar fractures probably is much higher than commonly thought. Management of fracture patients immediately following the accident, during the postinjury stages of mandibular growth, and at completion

The present study reports the prevalence of the various traits of malocclusion, as well as the occurrence of associations between malocclusion, and symptoms and signs of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in children selected for orthodontic treatment by the new Danish procedure for screening the child population for severe malocclusions entailing health risks. The sample comprised 104 children (56 F, 48 M) aged 7-13. Malocclusion traits were recorded at the time of selection, symptoms and signs of TMD were recorded at recall. The most prevalent malocclusion traits were distal molar occlusion (

BACKGROUND: The correlations between the sagittal jaw position and the cranio-cervical inclination are described in literature. Only few studies focus on the sagittal jaw position and the body posture using valid and objective orthopaedic examination methods. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that patients with malocclusions reveal significant differences in body posture compared to those without (upper thoracic inclination, kyphotic angle, lordotic angle and lower lumbar inclination).
METHODS: Eighty-four healthy adult patients (with a mean age = 25.6 years and ranging from 16

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this research was to compare maxillary width and hard palate thickness in men and women with different vertical and sagittal skeletal patterns.
METHODS: A total of 241 adults (93 men and 148 women aged from 18 to 25 years) were divided into male and female groups. Subjects were then separately divided into 3 sagittal skeletal groups and 3 vertical skeletal groups. A lateral cephalogram and a cone-beam computed tomography were taken for each subject. We measured the parameters to make statistical analyses and compared them between the different groups.
RESULTS:

INTRODUCTION: This research aimed to determine the nonlinear correlation between lateral cephalometric measurements and facial attractiveness, evaluated in the frontal and profile views. A quadratic correlation was studied, in which the vertex of the function indicates the cephalometric value corresponding to the maximum attractiveness.
METHODS: Frontal and profile facial attractiveness of 60 patients with Class I (n = 20), Class II (n = 20), or Class III malocclusion (n = 20) aged 18-35 years without previous orthodontic treatment was evaluated by 14 laypersons (7 men and 7 women) with a vis

Background: Skeletal deep bite malocclusion (Angle Class II division 2) represents a common vertical skeletal discrepancy characterized by excessive anterior overbite and a hypodivergent craniofacial growth pattern. The contribution of cranial base morphology to mandibular growth direction during early development remains incompletely understood. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between cranial base morphology and maxillofacial growth patterns in children with skeletal deep bite, using a longitudinal cephalometric approach. Materials and Methods: This retrospective longitudinal cohort s

BACKGROUND: Maxillary midline diastema (MMD) is a gap between the maxillary central incisors, posing cosmetic and psychosocial concerns for most patients. MMD results from multifactorial causes, including labial frenum, microdontia, genetics, and various oral habits. The purpose of this article was to review MMD, analyze its prevalence, describe a new shape-based classification, and identify potential causes with a focus on evidence-based practice.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional descriptive study utilized orthodontic clinical records of Saudi adults aged 18-30 years who had not s

This report describes a patient with Vertical Maxillary Excess without open bite in whom surgical orthodontic treatment to reduce lower facial height remarkably improved function and facial esthetics. The patient was a 22-year-old male whose main concern was crowding and temporomandibular joint clicking sounds. The clinical and radiological findings led to the diagnosis of Vertical Maxillary Excess with a mild skeletal class II malocclusion. The proposed treatment plan comprised a bimaxillary surgery without premolar extractions. LeFort I osteotomy was planned to reposition the maxilla superio
