Teres major injuries are uncommon, presenting as sports related with the reported majority occurring in baseball players. Here we are presenting a case of compete teres major tendon tear in a hobbyist body builder during his routine workout session while practicing an overhead set. On examination, the patient had muscle retraction and swelling below the scapula with minor limitation of movement. MRI confirmed the complete tear of the teres major muscle at the musculotendinous junction with tendon retraction. Patient offered (type of treatment). He underwent conservative management with near co

CASE: A 71-year-old otherwise healthy man presented with an 8-week history of elbow pain and weakness in both elbow flexion and forearm supination. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed complete rupture of the distal biceps tendon insertion associated with 65 mm of proximal retraction. At 10 weeks after initial injury, the patient underwent a novel reconstruction technique using a periosteal flap from the iliac crest; subsequently, all symptoms resolved.
CONCLUSION: Chronic distal biceps tendon injuries can be reconstructed safely and effectively using a periosteal flap from the iliac crest tha…

CASE: We report on a 19-year-old male renal transplant patient with multiple medical issues who sustained simultaneous bilateral quadriceps tendon ruptures and bilateral femoral neck fractures after 2 generalized tonic-clonic seizures. The quadriceps tendon ruptures were detected early surgically repaired; the femoral neck fractures were not detected and managed with bilateral total hip arthroplasty for almost 2 weeks.
CONCLUSION: Tonic-clonic seizures can be associated with unique and complex acute orthopaedic injuries that can be initially missed. Physicians should be cognizant of the need

Peroneal tendon pathology is becoming an increasingly recognized source of lateral-sided ankle pain. High clinical suspicion, along with judicious physical examination coupled with confirmatory advanced imaging modalities, are necessary to make an accurate diagnosis and aid in guiding treatment. Peroneal pathology encompasses several distinct conditions. Peroneal tendon tears and injuries to the peroneal retinaculum must be identified to guide treatment. Patients with peroneal pathology report high levels of satisfaction after surgical management with most returning to their preinjury level of

Knee extensor mechanism disruption is an unusual but serious emergency presentation. Rarely disruption can occur within the patellar tendon which is often associated with systemic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Surgical management is required to repair the patellar tendon after clinical assessment and diagnosis. We describe the case of a 75-year-old man without any known predisposing systemic disease presenting on several occasions before accurate diagnosis and treatment. We include a literature review of similar cases and discuss the importance of miss

A 27-year-old man with a high-energy, open-fracture dislocation of the ankle underwent debridement and open reduction of his injuries. During surgery a disruption-laceration of the posterior tibial tendon at the level of the fracture of the medial malleolus was found. Repair required location of the proximal muscle and tendon and controlled traction of the musculotendinous unit from its retracted position. Common aspects in the nine previously reported instances of this lesion include relatively high energy of the injury and the fracture type, a transverse fracture in the medial malleolus. Uni

The authors propose a method of surgical treatment of habitual dislocation of the shoulder which consists in partial section of the subscapular muscle tendon in 1/2 of its diameter and inserting the long head tendon of the musculus biceps brachii inke is fixed to the humerus by trans-osseous+ sutures. The operation was performed in 207 patients. The observation terms in 181 patients exceed 2 years, and in 26 patients they are less than 2 years. The relapses of the dislocation have been observed in 3 (1.6%) patients, in 2 of them they occurred 5 and 8 years after severe injuries.

The results of treatment of severe injuries to the proximal interphalangeal joint are unsatisfactory. The methods of joint reconstruction are discussed, including fusion, implant arthroplasty, perichondrial grafting and vascularized joint transfer. A patient is presented with a severe crush injury to the dorsum of the index finger with loss of skin and extensor tendon and proximal interphalangeal joint disruption. Immediate reconstruction of the finger is described using a composite free flap of skin, extensor tendon and proximal interphalangeal joint from the second toe. Follow-up at two year

Human Achilles tendon is composed of three smaller sub-tendons and exhibits non-uniform internal displacements, which decline with age and after injury, suggesting a potential role in the development of tendinopathies. Studying internal sliding behaviour is therefore important but difficult in human Achilles tendon. Here we propose the equine deep digital flexor tendon (DDFT) and its accessory ligament (AL) as a model to understand the sliding mechanism. The AL-DDFT has a comparable sub-bundle structure, is subjected to high and frequent asymmetric loads and is a natural site of injury similar

Tendon and ligament disorders, such as tendinopathy, cause pain and limit levels of activities of daily living. Thus, devising methods to heal them is crucial. Although treatment with autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) is reportedly useful against tendon injury, PRP requires blood sampling and its quality varies. Here we show that platelet-like cells (ASCL-PLCs) derived from a heterologous human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell line (ASCL) promote significant tendon repair in a collagenase-induced injury model in rat Achilles tendons. Single administration of human ASCL-PLCs to rat Ach

BACKGROUND: The absence of a comprehensive classification system for Achilles tendon (AT) injuries contributes to the lack of consensus regarding optimal treatment strategies, as it hinders accurate differentiation of injury types.
PURPOSE: To evaluate epidemiology of AT ruptures to develop a magnetic resonance imaging-based classification system for rupture location.
STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3.
METHODS: A search was conducted for all patients with acute AT injuries between 2016 and 2023. Tear locations were classified as follows: type 1 (musculotendinous junc

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have focused on the effect of the peroneus longus tendon graft on the knee; in this study, we focused on its impact on the ankle. Injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are frequently observed in sports injuries. The peroneus longus tendon graft has rapidly gained a place in the literature; however, very few studies have been conducted on the foot-ankle region stability of this tendon.
PURPOSE: To investigate the effect on this region of the peroneus longus tendon graft used in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR).
STUDY DESIGN: Case series,

BACKGROUND: Hamstring injuries are commonly considered the number one reason for delayed return to play and return to sport (RTS) across several sport disciplines. Traditionally, they are treated conservatively. However, recent literature has shown surgical intervention to improve recovery and expedite RTS. One potential explanation behind this phenomenon is conservative treatment does not address the disrupted length-tendon relationship, which can cause hamstring re-injury.
INDICATIONS: Operative indications for tendon excision include patients with distal semitendinosus avulsions tear with

Snapping or triggering of fingers is a common complaint, the most frequent cause being tenosynovitis of the flexor tendon sheath. Injury of the flexor tendon as a precursor of triggering is infrequent. Foreign body granuloma of the tendon sheath as an antecedent factor has not been yet recorded. We report a case of stenosing tenosynovitis of the flexor tendon of the thumb caused by local reaction to a foreign body.
