Plasma and erythrocyte concentrations of 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Eleven children (9 with acute lymphatic leukemia) were studied after oral intake of 6-MP doses ranging between 31 and 128 mg/m2 body surface area. The concentrations of 6-MP in plasma were found to vary considerably between patients even after dose normalization to 75 mg/m2. The use of antibiotics in periodontal therapy has received increasing attention in recent years. Although generally safe, certain antibiotics, including tetracycline and ampicillin, have been shown to interact indirectly with oral contraceptives, with a resultant decrease in oral contraceptive efficacy. This paper reviews the nature of antibiotic-oral contraceptive inter-actions, as well as the precautions that have been suggested for patients taking oral contraceptives for whom certain antibiotics have been prescribed.

At the end of this period, the rats were given doses of barbital acutely, and the effects of this treatment on levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the cerebellum were determined. The concentration of salicylic acid in human tears has been measured by using reverse-phase, high-pressure liquid chromatography. Pharmacokinetic profiles in tears and in plasma have been obtained following oral administration of 650, 1300, and 1950 mg of aspirin in normal subjects. Salicylate excretion in tears is dose-dependent and is proportional to the plasma concentration. Tear and plasma salicylate levels for rheumatology patients on salicylates are also included.

Three small infants whose mothers had received oral anticoagulant therapy during the first trimester of pregnancy are described. These infants all had hypoplasia of the nasal bones, and two had stippling of epiphyses and bones and deformities of the bones of the hand. One child is mentally retarded. It is suggested that these abnormalities may be related to maternal oral anticoagulant therapy during the first trimester.
