In long-standing edentulous cases, the alveolar bone generally demonstrates vertical and horizontal atrophy. Rehabilitating these patients with dental implants is difficult unless treatment is accompanied by some kind of augmentation procedures, all of which include specific disadvantages. One such technique, alveolar ridge splitting, is suitable only for enhancing ridge width. It has the advantage of reducing treatment time significantly, as implants can be placed simultaneously. This article offers a brief description of the procedure along with 3 case reports.

Localized defects of the alveolar crest are deformities that impair prosthetic restoration of the damaged ridge area, causing esthetic, phonetic, and oral hygiene complications. Among the alternatives that have been proposed to restore the damaged ridge area and dentition to normal form, function, and esthetics, the procedures that involve ridge augmentation with soft tissues have been widely accepted. The present clinical report describes a novel surgical procedure to treat these deformities.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate vertical and horizontal alveolar resorption after the extraction of eight single maxillary molars using solvent-dehydrated bone allograft (Puros) covered with a nonresorbable membrane for ridge preservation. At implant placement 4 months later, ridge dimensions were measured clinically and radiographically and compared to baseline, and a histologic analysis was performed. The mean buccal height decreased by 1.51 mm at midpoint, 0.88 mm mesially, and 1.16 mm distally. The implants were placed without additional ridge augmentation, and six of eight requi

BACKGROUND: Alveolar ridge deficiencies following trauma, tooth loss, or endodontic pathology may compromise implant placement in the anterior maxilla. While autogenous bone grafting remains the benchmark, a growth factor bioavailability-enhanced allograft (GFBA) has been developed as an alternative.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 44-year-old man presented for implant rehabilitation in the anterior maxilla. Tooth No. 8 was missing due to trauma that occurred approximately 20 years prior. Cone-beam computed tomography findings for site No. 8 showed an atrophic alveolar ridge with intact cortical plates

This study aimed to simultaneously assess hard and soft tissues alterations and their proportions after alveolar ridge preservation (ARP). Participants (n = 65) who were previously enrolled in a clinical trial investigating ARP healing were selected. The CBCT DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) and the cast STL (stereolithographic) files of each subject were imported, segmented, and superimposed. A cross-section view of the superimposed image presented the outlines from each DICOM and STL file. The center of preserved ridge was selected in the superimposed image and used to

BACKGROUND: Alveolar bone undergoes volumetric changes after extraction due to physiologic bone remodeling. The amount of alveolar bone available during prosthodontic treatment can affect the esthetic outcome of the treatment and make implant placement challenging. Socket preservation techniques are advocated postextraction to maintain the bone's vertical and horizontal alveolar bone dimensions and prevent its atrophy.
AIM: This review is oriented toward a clinician, describing the different materials and techniques in practice today for socket preservation.

A postextraction socket is always open to different treatment possibilities. A straightforward clinical classification may help evaluate which surgical approach is best suited for the case being treated. Four different classes are defined on the basis of the local anatomy of the site, available bone volume, and soft tissue level. For every clinical situation, either immediate placement, early placement, alveolar ridge preservation, or staged approach can be selected as a treatment modality according to the classifications listed.

Resorption of alveolar bone that occurs following tooth extraction is irreversible, it may compromise the restoration of implants or conventional prostheses. Ridge preservation can minimize ridge resorption after tooth extraction. In this article, healing features of socket after tooth extraction, factors influencing ridge remodeling, and the use of bioma-terials were reviewed.

In the dental implant era, there has been growing interest in exploring the most effective methods to minimize morphologic alteration in the postextraction site. Despite modern methods of ridge preservation, resorption of the ridge is inevitable. The optimal approach to minimizing the rate and amount of these changes is still a subject of controversy. This article provides a contemporary review of the different approaches to preserve alveolar ridge dimensions. A suggested classification for single extraction sockets is presented along with multiple treatment options for each class.

INTRODUCTION: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by damaged and dysregulated immune system due to breakdown in the selection process during clonal growth of immune cells. Studies have shown that patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) display altered gene expression patterns and increased double-stranded DNA breaks within their hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPC). However, the current animal models for SLE found in the existing literature predominantly emphasize the use of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) over HSPC for the cre

BACKGROUND: Lateral window approach for sinus floor lift is commonly used for vertical bone augmentation in cases when the residual bone height is less than 5 mm. However, managing cases becomes more challenging when a maxillary sinus pseudocyst is present or when there is insufficient bone width. In this case, we utilized the bone window prepared during the lateral window sinus lift as a shell for horizontal bone augmentation. This allowed for simultaneous horizontal and vertical bone augmentation immediately after the removal of the maxillary sinus pseudocyst.

Following tooth extraction, a sequence of events takes place in order to close the wound and restore tissue homeostasis, a process called socket healing. The outcome of socket healing includes a marked reduction of the ridge dimensions. The amount of tissue loss that occurs during healing is influenced by several local and systemic factors. Thus, the aim of the present review was to describe the effect of anatomical characteristics of the alveolar process and basal bone on the socket healing outcome. The studies included showed that the quantity (number) and quality (composition) of socket wal

Alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) therapy is indicated to attenuate the physiologic resorptive events that occur as a consequence of tooth extraction with the purpose of facilitating tooth replacement therapy. This randomized controlled trial was primarily aimed at testing the efficacy of ARP as compared with unassisted socket healing. A secondary objective was to evaluate the effect that local phenotypic factors play in the volumetric reduction of the alveolar bone. A total of 53 subjects completed the study. Subjects were randomized into either the control group, which involved only tooth ex
