BACKGROUND: Epidural hematoma usually stems from trauma, yet it may occur from other etiologies, including neoplasms. We present a case of small cell lung carcinoma with focal hemorrhagic central nervous system metastasis producing an epidural hematoma, and review the associated literature.

Glial neoplasms in children comprise many heterogeneous tumors that include pilocytic and fibrillary astrocytomas, ependymomas, and the diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas. In contrast to adults, most of whom present with high-grade fibrillary neoplasms, alternate histologies represent most cases seen in the pediatric setting. In addition, although most adult gliomas are supratentorial in location, in pediatrics infratentorial tumors (posterior fossa and brain stem) predominate. BACKGROUND: Patients with brainstem metastases (BSMs) have minimal surgical options due to high-risk anatomy. To review our efficacy treating BSM using Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), we compared results on the basis of the utilization of mask-fixation (MF) or frame-fixation (FF).

Among patients with enchondromatosis, those with Ollier's disease are usually considered to be at a lower risk for extra-osseous malignancy than those with Maffucci's disease. However, several reports suggest that Ollier's disease may also be associated with gliomas. We report here the youngest patient in the literature (16 years) to be detected with a brain tumor and Ollier's disease. This is also the first case with diffuse brain stem involvement. Thus, counselling of patients with Ollier's disease may become more difficult than initially thought.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Adult brainstem gliomas are rare primary brain tumours with heterogeneous clinical course. The low frequency of these tumours makes it difficult to achieve high-quality evidence regarding prognostic factors, adequate therapeutic approach and outcome in such patients.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, we analysed clinical, radiological, molecular, prognostic and therapeutic factors in a series of 47 histologically proven adult brainstem gliomas recruited over a 20-year period (1998-2018).

The simultaneous occurrence of brain stem glioma and disseminated Strongyloides stercoralis infestation in an Ecuadorian male is reported. The unusual finding of Strongyloides larvae in the potassium hydroxide preparation for fungi and in the Gram stain for bacteria from a sputum during hemoptysis fortuitously established the diagnosis of disseminated strongyloidiasis. Of interest was the demonstration of various stages of Strongyloides in the sputum during treatment. Strongyloides infestation must be assiduously searched for in susceptible patients who are, or who are to be, immunosuppressed.
