Atypical interstitial pneumonia is described as two clinical syndromes in young cattle. One syndrome occurs in animals which have clinical evidence of pneumonic pasteurellosis, responds initially to treatment for one to two days and then develops acute signs of atypical interstitial pneumonia. The second syndrome involves acute respiratory distress in young calves due to atypical interstitial pneumonia with antecedents of enzootic pneumonia. The postmortem lesions are described along with discussion of the possible pathogenesis of the condition and treatment.

A bilateral hip lameness has been found in young beef bulls of the Hereford, Aberdeen Angus, Galloway and Charolais breeds in the United Kingdom, North America and Australia. The incidence is usually small and sporadic, but up to half of the male animals on one farm may be affected clinically by the time they are one year old. Clinical lameness begins at three months to two years old, and very occasionally up to three years of age; some calves are obviously affected at birth. A description is given of the investigation into two outbreaks of congenital cataract in dairy herds. There is a description of the clinical signs, the incidence, the period of time over which the cases occurred and of the seasonal distribution of the births. The type of herd management is descirbed and a hereditary factor is not considered to occur. The possibility of the involvement of other toxic and environmental agents is discussed. The macroscopic and microscopical findings are described; the relation to the early period of lens development of the bovine fetus suggested.

Clinical signs, pathologic changes and biochemical changes occurred in cattle with natural and experimental triaryl phosphate poisoning. Natural poisoning was caused by triaryl phosphates escaping from a gas pipeline compressor station. The clinical signs were posterior motor paralysis, dyspnea, diarrhea and agalactia. Experimental doses of 1/2-1 gm/kg body weight of these organophosphate compounds caused depression of cholinesterase and axonal degeneration in the spinal cord.
