BACKGROUND: Pathology of the appendix represents >50% of surgical activity. It is necessary to consider rare pathologies such as mucoceles. These have a high frequency in females with a F/M ratio of 4:1, as well as in patients >50 years of age. The objective of this study is to report on a case of mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix.
CLINICAL CASE: We present the case of a 34-year-old male with a history of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis diagnosed at 9 years of age. At 22 years of age, the patient underwent bilateral hip arthroplasty. Since 1998, the patient has presented with renal amyloidos

A variety of miscellaneous conditions affect the appendix, both as incidental findings and as causes of clinical signs and symptoms that often mimic appendicitis. Congenital abnormalities of the appendix are rare; the two most commonly reported are congenital absence and appendiceal duplication. Diverticular disease may be an incidental finding, but when inflamed, can be clinically confused with appendicitis. Endometriosis of the appendix, which usually occurs in the setting of generalized gastrointestinal endometriosis, often presents as acute appendicitis, but may present as intussusception,

Dermoid cyst is a rare but well recognised cause of a mass in the abdomen. As a cause of a palpable mass in the right iliac fossa, dermoid and epidermoid cysts of the caecum have hitherto been described. We here report a case of a dermoid cyst arising from the vermiform appendix.

A case of squamous cell carcinoma of the caecum is reported, confirmed by light and electron microscopy. The tumour was associated with pelvic irradiation ten years previously. Current theories of aetiology of squamous-cell carcinoma of the large bowel are reviewed.

We report here a case of primary colorectal T-cell lymphoma of the cecum in a 30-year-old man. Patient presented with a history of abdominal pain, fever, vomiting and hematochezia. Clinical examination was unremarkable and colonoscopy showed an ulcerating mass in the colon. A right hemicolectomy with dissection of the paracolic lymph nodes was performed. The final histopathological examination showed a primary T- cell lymphoma of the cecum. Staging didn't show any involvement in any other sites of the body. Primary colon lymphoma is a rare gastrointestinal tumor that represents less than 1% of

Appendicitis can rarely occur in association with carcinoma of the caecum, particularly in elderly patients. We report a case of acute appendicitis provoked by an adenocarcinoma of the caecum which obstructs the lumen of the appendix in a 58-year-old man. The patient underwent an ileocaecal resection with lymph node dissection. The difficulties of identifying a small tumor at laparotomy and the implication for optimal treatment are emphasized.

Malignant carcinomatous change is a rare complication in an enteric duplication cyst, and papillary adenocarcinoma is especially unusual. We describe a papillary adenocarcinoma, arising from a duplication of the colon, seen as a cyst with an enhancing papillary projection nodule located adjacent to the wall of the ascending colon and cecum on computed tomography.

A hundred and nine cases of cecovesical fistula are described in the literature. Although its origin is usually reported to be appendicitis, we present a rare case of cecovesical and rectovesical fistulas secondary to mucinous adenocarcinoma of the cecum. An 84-year-old man was referred to our hospital with the chief complaints of fever and cloudy urine. An enterovesical fistula was seen on cystography, and cystoscopy showed a lot of mucinous fluid in the bladder and the papillary tumor arising from the enteric mucosa was identified through the fistula. Transurethral biopsy of the tumor reveal
