The results of proper investigations and literature data obtained while studying the effect of single general radiation, radioisotopes of iodine, strontium and cesium on experimental animals are presented. The data thus obtained enable one to form a pattern of radiation-induced injuries within the nearest and remote period of time following radiation accident. Glass fragments (16 green glasses and 2 red glasses) were handpicked from crushed Trinitite. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that these samples were essentially pure glass with the exception of minor amounts (less than 4 wt%) of quartz (which acts as a diluent) in some samples. A total of 68 sediment cores from four freshwater alpine lakes in Idaho's Sawtooth Wilderness were collected during the summer of 2017. The objectives of the study were to determine depth distributions of Cs in the cores using gamma spectrometry and to estimate the sedimentation rates of the lakes from the identified geochronological peaks linked to nuclear fallout. A sequential multicomponent process involving the high-speed vibration milling of ketones with N-iodosuccinimide and p-toluenesulfonic acid, followed by addition of a mixture of primary amines, β-dicarbonyl compounds, cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate and silver nitrate afforded polysubstituted, functionalized pyrroles. This one-pot, solid-state process can be considered as the coupling of an α-iodoketone preparation with a general version of the classical Hantzsch pyrrole synthesis.
