[Successful therapy of condylomata acuminata with ingenol mebutate].

Condylomata acuminata (CA) are one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in the sexually active population. Due to the stigmatizing character of the disease and the high rate of relapse after therapy, CA may significantly affect patients' quality of life. Here, we report the case of successful treatment of multiple CA of the penis and scrotum in a 53-year-old man with ingenol mebutate gel.

[Comparative assessment of the methods of treatment of Condylomata acuminata].

The treatment of Condylomata acuminata often causes disappointment to both the physician and the patient since most of the current medical approaches require multiple examines while on the other hand success rates are low and recurrence rates remain high. The treatment approaches include surgical as well as non-surgical methods. The non-surgical treatment includes the application of local agents such as imiquimod, podophyllotoxin, and 5-fluorouracil. Other local agents, used in outpatient treatment settings, include trichloroacetic acid (TCA), podophyllin, or the intralesional application of a…

Myiasis arising in condylomata acuminata: an unusual presentation.

Myiasis is infestation of skin, mucosa, orifices or natural cavities of humans or animals by larvae of flying dipterous insects that, at least for a certain period of their life cycle, feed from live or necrotic tissue of the host. The distribution is worldwide with more cases being reported from tropical, subtropical and warm temperate areas. This report describes a rare case of perianal condylomata acuminata complicated with myiasis due to Chrysomya bezziana, seen in the presence of poor hygiene in a tropical country with a high fly population.

[Differential diagnosis of condylomata acuminata. Indication for histopathology].

Condylomata acuminata are the most frequently diagnosed sexually transmitted disease of the anogenital area worldwide. The basis of successful therapy is the correct diagnosis. There are numerous differential diagnostic considerations, many of which can only be confirmed with histological examination. The diagnosis and differential diagnosis of condylomata acuminata is reviewed. Combining histologic evaluation into the diagnostic approach should improve the therapeutic results.

[Condylomata acuminata: an indication for prophylactic HPV vaccination?].

HPV infection is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections worldwide. Although most infections are transient, persistent ones can lead to condylomata acuminata, genital intraepithelial neoplasia and genital cancer. The recent approval of vaccines against HPV has raised great hopes. Since 1990, 5,392 urological investigations for HPV were carried out in 1,792 men in special HPV centres. We report on the epidemiology and natural course of condylomata, techniques for HPV detection, treatment surveillance and long-term sequelae. Condylomata acuminata proved to be pathognomonic; partne…

[Condylomata acuminata in pregnancy. Is there an indication for Cesarean section?].

Condylomata acuminata are very rare in children, although the prevalence of clinically or cytologically visible human papilloma virus infections is high. We report on a 28-year old G IV, P II with genital warts at the time of delivery, who had a baby boy without any signs of HPV-infection. The condylomata of the mother persisted, and subsequently laser vaporisation was performed one year after delivery. One year after laser therapy, a recurrent HPV-infection in the mother was detected. At this time, her two year old son had condylomata on his scrotum. The same serotypes, HPV 6 and 11, could be…

[Condylomata acuminata in childhood--pointing to sexual abuse].

The cause of condylomata acuminata and of other anogenitally located HPV lesions in children often remains undetermined. Sexual abuse is a possible cause of HPV infection in childhood. Non-venereal transmission of HPV, such as autoinoculation and heteroinoculation from extragenital sites to genitalia, however, is much more likely in this age group. Histology and HPV typing of genital warts may provide evidence for non-venereal transmission of HPV in children. Identification of the genital HPV types HPV 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, etc. in a child is no proof of sexual abuse. Behavioural abnormalities an…

An immunohistological study of spontaneous regression of condylomata acuminata.

An immunohistological study of four men whose perianal warts were undergoing spontaneous regression was undertaken, and the results compared with those obtained from non-regressing condylomata from six men. CD4+ and CD8+ cells were noted in the stroma of each wart, but there was no clear difference in the density of the infiltrate between regressing and non-regressing warts. Natural killer cells (CD16+ and CD57+) were only noted in the stroma and epidermis of regressing warts. Possible immunological mechanisms of regression of condylomata acuminata are discussed.

Topical podofilox for the treatment of condylomata acuminata in women.

The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy and safety of 0.5% podofilox solution (Condylox) for the treatment of genital warts … bably unrelated to drug use. Thus, 0.5% podofilox solution appears to be an effective treatment for condylomata acuminata, with acceptable side effects that are local and temporary.

Natural interferon alfa for treatment of condylomata acuminata.

The activity of natural (leukocyte) interferon alfa in the treatment of condylomata acuminata was assessed in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial. Interferon alfa (Alferon N Injection) or placebo was injected into lesions twice weekly for up to eight weeks. Eighty-six patients were given interferon alfa, and 72 were given placebo. Eighty-six percent of interferon alfa-treated patients and 89% of placebo-treated patients had received previous therapy for condylomata acuminata. Side effects, usually flulike symptoms, occurred briefly after the injections; if present…

[Chlamydia trachomatis infection in a patient with condylomata acuminata].

Chlamydia trachomatis cervical infection was observed in a 19-year-old woman with genital condylomata acuminata. To isolate C.trachomatis, cycloheximide-treated McCoy cells and a culture-independent monoclonal antibody were used. In addition, a single-antigen immunofluorescence test was made to determine the chlamydia antibody titer. Condylomata acuminata are induced by human papillomaviruses (HPV), predominantly types 6 and 11. This case shows that simultaneous genital infection of C.trachomatis and HPV requires special attention.

Condylomata acuminata in children: report of four cases.

Four cases of condylomata acuminata in children (two boys, two girls) are reported. Three children had perianal warts and one vulvar warts. One of the four children had been sexually assaulted, but a history of sexual contact was absent in the other three. Surgical excision was undertaken in one case and the others responded well to the local application of 25% podophyllin in benzoin tincture compound. In the absence of sexual contact, a non-coital mode of transmission of infection could be a possibility.
