BACKGROUND: Youth Advisory Boards and Community Advisory Boards are widely used to promote public involvement in research involving adolescents and young adults. These structures can improve the relevance, acceptability, and ethical grounding of research; however, advisory models often remain constrained by structural limitations, including inconsistent or inadequate compensation models, limited decision-making authority, grant-dependent instability, and late-stage engagement. These constraints may unintentionally position youth as episodic consultants rather than sustained research partners.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the practices of laparoscopic specimen retrieval among Gynaecologists in the United Kingdom and to determine any variation in practice. BACKGROUND: Tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) are a group of carcinogens, which originate from nicotine and other tobacco alkaloids during fermentation and burning of tobacco. We present the fictional case of a 29-year-old man with sickle cell disease referred to psychiatry for evaluation of depression during an acute pain episode. Consultation-liaison psychiatrists with expertise in sickle cell disease provide guidance for this commonly encountered clinical case based on their experience and a review of the available literature. Key teaching points include the high prevalence of mood and cognitive disorders in this population, as well as pertinent issues related to chronic pain, opioids, and stigma.

The evolution of prenatal genetic testing has transformed prenatal diagnosis into a more precise and individualized approach. Advanced tools such as chromosomal microarray analysis and exome sequencing have enabled the prenatal diagnosis of more genetic conditions, including anomalies and disorders eligible for fetal therapy. When in utero therapy is considered, accurate genetic diagnosis is essential for guiding providers' and patients' decisions regarding management and outcomes. This chapter reviews available prenatal genetic screens and tests, their indications, and counseling strategies.

This study describes a hospital-based child abuse pediatrics consultation service. Medical records for all child abuse pediatrics consultations during 2006 to 2009 were reviewed. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Of 2495 consultations, 13 were excluded due to insufficient information, 1682 were examinations for suspected sexual abuse, and 800 were examinations for nonsexual abuse concerns.
