OBJECTIVE: To establish an animal model of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) like human.
METHODS: Ten healthy adult three-leg Beagle male dogs weighing (16.0 +/- 1.6) kg were conducted as the animal model of ONFH according to the schedule of cryosurgery designed in advance in which liquid nitrogen, pressurized to 0.5 MPa, was poured into the femoral head for 16.5 minutes. After rewarmed to O degrees C for 10 minutes, the liquid nitrogen was reported into the femoral head for another 16.5 minutes. At the end of the follow-up, the results were reviewed by pathologic check. One dog was co…

We have assessed 24 patients consecutively treated with cryosurgery and chosen according to the guidelines of the European Study Group of Urologic Cryosurgeons. Of the 24 patients (average age about 70, range 61-79), all were not considered candidates for radical prostatectomy, 9 (37%) were clinical stage cT2 N0M0, 15 (63%) cT3 N0M0 who had not received any prior treatment, except 1 patient (61 years old) who was treated with TCT and successive recurrence of the disease (cT2). Of the 24 chosen patients, 13 (55%) were over the age of 71, 11 (45%) had important factors of co-morbidity and an ele…

In order to sum up the experience of transsphenoidal resection of pituitary tumors, 60 cases operated between 1984 and 1995 were reviewed. T … orrhage, optic nerve injury, permanent diabetes insipidus. The proper applications of endoscopy and cryosurgery were recommended for transsphenoidal removal of pituitary tumors.

Cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen was used to treat 11 cases of chromomycosis, 5 with localized lesions and 6 with generalized ones. Freezing time varied from 30 seconds to 4 minutes and the number of cycles from 1 to more than 40. All 5 cases with localized lesions responded extremely well to treatment, with no relapse for up to 53 months. Three patients with generalized lesions attained clinical and mycologic remission for up to 26 months, while 3 had significant improvement without cure. Cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen is therefore an effective treatment for chromomycosis, especially for ca…

One hundred and ninety-eight patients with abnormal cytologic smears had extensive diagnostic biopsy of the portio combined with endocervical curettage. Severe dysplasia or cancer in situ was found in 57 per cent of the patients. During a period of observation of 6--42 months (average 18 months) the cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) regressed in 54 per cent. Cryosurgery was used to treat 93 patients with persistent CIN after biopsy. Treatment was successful in almost 70 per cent after one single application of cryosurgery. The complications were negligible. Treatment was less successful…

The course of the temperature in the lateral semicircular canal and the heat exchange were measured on temporal-bone specimens when cooling with a cryoprobe on the lateral semicircular canal was performed. The measurements showed a correlation between the heat exchange, the cooling time and the temperature in the lateral semicircular canal. In 15 patients with unilateral Meniere's disease, this was utlized to achieve a controlled temperature course during cryosurgery on the lateral semicircular canal. The effect of the treatment on the attacks of vertigo and on the hearing in these patients is…

Cryoablation therapy for tumors has a long history of clinical application. Its anti-tumor mechanisms and histopathological changes have been well established, with extensive clinical practice demonstrating its safety and efficacy, theoretically making it an ideal modality for tumor treatment. Historically constrained by limitations in cryogenic media and freezing equipment, its therapeutic effectiveness and clinical adoption were significantly restricted. The emergence of new-generation cryoablation systems represented by Argon-Helium cryosurgical systems has achieved substantial advancements

INTRODUCTION: Cryosurgery is an alternative treatment for many benign, premalignant, and malignant lesions of the skin.
AIM: To review the indications of cryosurgery for cutaneous lesions.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The retrospective study was based on the assessment of medical records of 1031 dermatology patients who had cryosurgery.
RESULTS: One thousand two hundred and forty-four sessions of cryosurgery were applied to the total of 1031 patients. Of the 1031 patients, the most frequent indication for cryosurgery was common warts which were present in 535 (61.59%) patients, followed by anogeni…

Basal cell carcinomas (BCC) on the genital area account for less than 1% of all BCCs. Surgical management is indicated. Recurrence rate of vulvar BCC has been reported to be 10-20%. Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is a superior surgical option. Other treatments include radiation and topical immuntherapy. Cryosurgery for vulvar BCC has not been reported. We present the case of a 88-year-old Hispanic woman with a vulvar ulcer that was confirmed as BCC by histopathology and treated with liquid nitrogen cryosurgery. Control biopsy was performed on day 90 was negative for BCC. No clinical evidence …

BACKGROUND: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are most often treated with intralesional surgery (curettage) and additional bone grafting. There is debate on whether or not to use adjuvant therapy to decrease the local recurrence rate. This study is done to assess the outcome of curettage and cryosurgery as a treatment of ABC.
METHODS: We analyzed 80 consecutive cases of ABC treated with curettage and cryosurgery. Patients were followed minimal 24 months after surgery (average 55 months, range 24-122 months) with physical examination and radiographs. Functional outcome was evaluated using the muscu…
