Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a poorly understood syndrome. Patients with pelvic pain, urgency, frequency, and/or dysuria may pose a diagnostic dilemma. We report 3 cases of eosinophilic granulomatous cystitis in children. All presented with hematuria, urinary urgency, and dysuria. Treatment with oral corticosteroids led to rapid and complete recovery in 2 of the 3 cases. In the third case recovery was prolonged without the use of steroids. Because of the presumed immunologic nature of this disease, previous authors have recommended the use of corticosteroids in its management. A review of the literature suggests that the disease is probably of immunologic nature and that corticosteroids shorten symptomatic recovery from this disease.

The outcomes of using low-energy helium-neon laser radiation in a complex management of 21 patients with complicated forms of nephrotuberculosis are illustrated. LG-75 laser (with 0.63 nm wavelength and 25 mW power) was used in this case. The effects appeared as a larger bladder capacity, cystoscopic picture normalization and an overall cessation of dysuria were observed as a result of 5 to 12 sessions of bladder mucosa radiation.

Two patients presented with macroscopic haematuria and dysuria. Cytoscopic examination showed haemorrhagic cystitis. The findings of casts in the urine and of impaired renal function led to renal biopsies. These showed glomerulonephritis with deposits of IgA in the mesangium. Detecting bacteria in pathological material and testing their sensitivity to antibiotics is essential in determining a treatment strategy and the choice of antimicrobial therapy. The results of the study showed that metagenomic analysis detects more bacteria in the pathological material than standard laboratory methods.
