Malformation in the primary and permanent dentitions following trauma prior to tooth eruption: a case report.

Dento-facial injuries that occur prior to the eruption of teeth in the primary dentition are rare, but can result in damage to the primary dentition. We report a rare case where an injury to the anterior maxilla and mandible of an infant prior to primary tooth eruption resulted in hypoplasia, displacement and impaction of the primary dentition and damage to a developing permanent tooth.

Management of root fracture of mandibular permanent lateral incisor in mixed dentition--a case report.

Management of root fracture of mandibular lateral incisors during mixed dentition with developing crowding in a ten year old boy by bilateral surgical extraction. Migration of permanent canine into the extracted region of lateral incisors was favourable with minimal spacing in between the rest of the teeth. The near normal parallel position of the roots of the permanent canines was achieved by early treatment planning of extraction of the lateral incisors instead of treating by other modalities which have a poor prognosis.

Bone grafting at the stage of mixed and permanent dentition in patients with clefts of the lip and primary palate.

Secondary bone grafting of a residual alveolar cleft has become a well established procedure. However, little attention has been paid to the benefits of these bone grafts in patients with clefts of the lip and alveolus only. This retrospective and comparative study includes 21 patients who had received a secondary or a late secondary bone grafting procedure from tibia and whose mean clinical and radiographic follow-up after the bone graft was 5.5 years. Eighteen patients treated without bone grafting served as controls. Length and width of cleft, presence or absence of permanent lateral inciso

Morphological analysis of anterior permanent dentition in a Chinese population using cone-beam computed tomography.

PURPOSE: Morphological analysis of permanent anterior dentition is essential for achieving an ideal treatment outcome and avoiding unnecessary failure. This study aimed to analyze the morphologies of anterior teeth in the Chinese population in depth. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 4309 anterior teeth from 401 Chinese patients were investigated using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) from 2019-2021. We summarized the morphological characteristics of the anterior teeth in terms of the root length, cementoenamel junction curvature (CEJ-C), root furcation and canal variations. RESULTS:

Three-dimensional evaluation of interproximal contacts of permanent dentition: a cone beam computed tomography study.

PURPOSE: To assess the various patterns of the inter-proximal contact areas of the permanent dentition using the available cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed on existing CBCT images from a University hospital and teaching department. Three thousand two hundred and fifty inter-proximal contacts were assessed from 125 existing CBCT scans of patients (age range: 14 years 3 months-29 years 9 months) who had matched the eligibility criteria. The types of inter-proximal contacts of the permanent dentition were scored at occlusal

Developmental Dental Defects in Permanent Teeth Resulting from Trauma in Primary Dentition: A Systematic Review.

The objective was to determine whether trauma in primary dentition causes alterations in the development of permanent dentition. Searches were made in May 2020 using PubMed, MEDLINE, MEDES, Scopus, Lilacs, and Embase. Papers in English, German, and Spanish, without restrictions in the year of publication, were included. The quality of the studies was analyzed using the NOS Scale. The search retrieved 537 references, and seven studies were included for a qualitative analysis. The results showed that trauma to a deciduous tooth can damage the bud of the permanent tooth. Enamel discoloration and/

Skeletal Class III correction in permanent dentition using reverse twin block appliance and fixed mechanotherapy.

The orthodontic management of patients with Class III malocclusion poses numerous prognostic and treatment challenges to the clinician. Various removable, orthopaedic, myofunctional and fixed appliances have been recommended for the correction of Class III malocclusion. The Reverse Twin Block (RTB) is a simple and well tolerated appliance which has often been used for the early management of such cases in mixed dentition. Cases reporting use of RTB in permanent dentition are however, limited. This article presents an insight into the encouraging results of reverse twin block (RTB) appliance us

The orthodontic management of patients with cleft lip and palate: from the permanent dentition and the adult returning to the service.

This is the second of two papers outlining the orthodontic management of patients with cleft lip and palate. The first paper reviewed orthodontic input into children with cleft lip and palate from birth to the late mixed dentition before definitive orthodontics. In this second paper, I will discuss tooth management across the grafted cleft site and its impact on the bone graft itself. I will also discuss the some of the challenges of the adult patient returning to the service.

An Interdisciplinary Approach in Rehabilitation of an Adult Mutilated Dentition with Multiple Missing Permanent Teeth--A Case Report.

Adult orthodontics has been an area of increasing focus in recent times. Comprehensive treatment of adults is more challenging due to a myriad of problems that coexist in an adult that makes treatment planning more challenging. A large number of individuals seek dental care because of aesthetic reasons, that is, the desire to look more attractive by improving their smiles. The role an attractive smile plays on a person's self-image and confidence cannot be overemphasized. Evaluating and treating patients for the purpose of smile design often involves a multi-discipline approach. Achieving an i

A possible association between early apical resorption of primary teeth and ectodermal characteristics of the permanent dentition.

The hypothesis of this study is that children with unexpected early apical resorption of the primary teeth are also predisposed to resorption in the permanent dentition. Accordingly, the aim was to perform a longitudinal study focussing on the permanent teeth in children with unexpected early apical resorption in the primary dentition. Panoramic radiographs of 12 children (7 boys and 5 girls) aged 6 years 4 months to 8 years 9 months with unexpected early apical resorption of primary teeth were identified from a dental archive of 588 patients. After written request, follow-up radiographs were
