A Pilot Study of Dietetic, Phenotypic, and Genotypic Features Influencing Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy in Women with Pregestational Diabetes Mellitus.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbimortality. Dietetic, phenotypic, and genotypic factors influencing HDP were analyzed during a nutrigenetic trial in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2016-2020). Pregnant women with pregestational diabetes mellitus (n = 70) were randomly assigned to a traditional or DASH diet group. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were measured during prenatal visits and HDP were diagnosed using international criteria. Phenotypic data were obtained from medical records and personal interviews. Ge

Silymarin, boswellic acid and curcumin enriched dietetic formulation reduces the growth of inherited intestinal polyps in an animal model.

BACKGROUND: Some substances of plant origin have been reported to exert an effect in reducing intestinal neoplasm development, especially in animal models. Adenomatous polyposis coli multiple intestinal neoplasia - ApcMin/+ is the most studied murine model of genetic intestinal carcinogenesis. AIM: To assess whether an enriched nutritional formulation (silymarin, boswellic acid and curcumin) with proven "in vitro" and "in vivo" anti-carcinogenetic properties may prevent inherited intestinal cancer in animal model. METHODS: Forty adenomatous polyposis coli multiple intestinal neoplasia - ApcM

Associations of dietetic management with maternal and neonatal health outcomes in women diagnosed with gestational diabetes: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: In 2010, the recommended diagnostic thresholds for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) were amended, which has increased GDM diagnoses, as well as pressure on the services involved in GDM management, specifically impacting dietetic workloads. The present study examined the associations between dietetic intervention in women with GDM and maternal and neonatal health outcomes. METHODS: The present study involved 1233 adult women with GDM who delivered at The Royal Women's Hospital (RWH), Melbourne, Australia, between July 2015 and May 2017. Retrospective data assessing GDM-care (the

Position of the American Dietetic Association: Nutrition intervention in the treatment of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and other eating disorders.

It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that nutrition intervention, including nutritional counseling, by a registered dietitian (RD) is an essential component of the team treatment of patients with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and other eating disorders during assessment and treatment across the continuum of care. Diagnostic criteria for eating disorders provide important guidelines for identification and treatment. However, it is thought that a continuum of disordered eating may exist that ranges from persistent dieting to subthreshold conditions and then to defined eat

Position of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada: nutrition intervention in the care of persons with human immunodeficiency virus infection.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) targets the immune system, making an infected person susceptible to infection and neoplasm because of an impaired ability to mount an adequate immune response. Malnutrition and its complications can further render an HIV-infected person susceptible to opportunistic infection and reduced effectiveness and tolerance to medications and other therapies. Though effective antiretroviral treatments have dramatically reduced death rates in the United States and Canada, HIV-infected people face a lifetime of vigilant polypharmacy to control HIV and associated complica

Position of Dietitians of Canada and the American Dietetic Association: Nutrition intervention in the care of persons with human immunodeficiency virus infection.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is one of the leading causes of chronic liver disease. It was first identified in 1989, as being distinct from hepatitis A and hepatitis B. The HCV does not attack the immune system, but rather causes an inflammatory reaction that is localized within the liver, involving the entire organ. About 80% of patients with acute hepatitis C will develop chronic HCV, of which about 20-30% will progress to cirrhosis and its consequences, over 10-20 years. After 20-40 years, a smaller proportion of patients with chronic disease will develop hepatocellular carcinoma. The course and

[CONSENSUS ON FATS AND OILS IN THE DIET OF S ISH ADULTS; POSITION PAPER OF THE SPANISH FEDERATION OF FOOD, NUTRITION AND DIETETICS SOCIETIES].

The quality of dietary fat critically influences health. In this consensus document the scientific evidence relating effects of dietary fat quantity and quality on cardiovascular risk is reviewed and recommendations for the Spanish adult population are issued. As a novelty in nutrition guidelines, emphasis is made more on parent foods than on fatty acids per se. In summary, replacing saturated fatty acids (SFA) for monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) reduces cardiovascular risk. Recent data suggest that SFA proper may be harmful or not depending on the par

Batch and Continuous Lipase-Catalyzed Production of Dietetic Structured Lipids from Milk Thistle, Grapeseed, and Apricot Kernel Oils.

The sustainable production of healthy structured lipids (SLs) using oils extracted from agro-industry by-products or non-conventional lipid sources is of utmost importance in the framework of a circular bioeconomy, toward a zero-waste goal. In this study, low-calorie triacylglycerols (TAGs) containing a long-chain (L) fatty acid (FA) at position sn-2 and medium-chain (M) FAs at positions sn-1,3 (MLM type SL) were obtained from virgin cold-pressed milk thistle (51.55% linoleic acid; C18:2), grapeseed (66.62% C18:2), and apricot kernel (68.61% oleic acid; C18:1) oils. Collaborative dietetic and psychological care in Interprofessional Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for adults with Anorexia Nervosa: a novel treatment approach.

Clinical practice guidelines for anorexia nervosa (AN) and atypical anorexia nervosa recommend treatment from a team including a mental health professional and a dietitian. To date, however, AN treatment models such as Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E) seldom include dietitians and have low to moderate treatment efficacy. Given interprofessional approaches to healthcare have been shown to improve treatment outcomes and enhance patient and clinician satisfaction, formalising collaborative dietetic and psychological treatment may be a feasible strategy to improve treatment outcomes an

Long-term symptom severity in people with irritable bowel syndrome following dietetic treatment in primary care: A service evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Evidence suggests that dietary interventions can improve symptoms in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), although most data explore the short-term (immediate) impact. Data on long-term (>6 months) impact are limited, especially from primary care settings. The present study aimed to investigate the long-term effect of dietetic-led interventions for IBS delivered in primary care. METHODS: A service evaluation of a dietetic-led IBS clinic was completed, analysing data on symptom severity, stool frequency and consistency, and healthcare input. Data were collected before and im

Dietary Regulation of Intestinal Stem Cell Function: Nutrient-Sensing, Microbiota-Mediated, and Regenerative Mechanisms from a Dietetic Perspective.

The intestinal epithelium is a dynamic tissue renewed by intestinal stem cells (ISCs) within the crypt niche. ISC behavior is regulated not only by intrinsic genetic programs but also by dietary composition, nutrient availability, microbial metabolites, and feeding rhythms. This narrative review synthesizes mechanisms through which diet influences ISC self-renewal, proliferation, differentiation, metabolic programming, and regenerative capacity. Dietary patterns exert context-dependent effects: caloric restriction, fasting, and structured feeding-fasting cycles may enhance epithelial regenerat
