Thirty-two cases of tumour in the region of papilla of Vater are reported including five benign lesions (papillitis, polyp, duodenitis) and 27 periampullary carcinomas. Duodenoscopy has a key position in the diagnosis of these lesions, since by judging the endoscopic appearance of the papilla a forceps biopsy and brush cytology can be performed. Accuracy of forceps biopsy is up to 66%, whereas diagnostic accuracy of brush cytology only reaches about 44%. Because of the possible false positive results, brush cytology should be regarded with reserve in the diagnosis of periampullary carcinomas. …

PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 20-month-old who presented with a 3-week history of non-bilious vomiting and metabolic alkalosis.
DIAGNOSIS: Serology demonstrated a hypokalaemic, hypochloraemic metabolic alkalosis. Abdominal ultrasonography and barium studies confirmed the diagnosis of gastric outlet obstruction.

Intracystic papillary neoplasm (ICPN) of the gallbladder is a rare clinicopathological entity with a wide range of malignant potentials. Here, we report a case of mucin-producing gallbladder carcinoma possibly derived from ICPN. A 78-year-old female patient was referred to our hospital for examination of jaundice. One hundred patients whose standard endoscopic retrograde cholangiographic studies gave poor visualization of the biliary tract were investigated using a balloon catheter introduced into the common bile duct by duodenoscopy to block contrast material leakage. Full diagnostic visualization was obtained in 90 patients, leading to accurate diagnosis in 88. In two other patients, the diagnosis was not confirmed. A 79-year-old female with benign past medical history presented to the gastroenterology clinic complaining of long-standing symptoms of dyspepsia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed nodular smooth mucosa in the second part of the duodenum. The morphologic and immunophenotypic findings were consistent with low-grade follicular lymphoma. The purpose of this manuscript is to educate the reader on this unusual finding that is pathognomonic for gastrointestinal lymphoma.
