Laboratory rabbits were exposed for 60 min to aerosols of dry cardroom cotton dust 4 days/wk (Tuesday through Friday) for 15 consecutive weeks. As a parameter of pulmonary pathophysiology, arterial blood gases were monitored with time after challenge. Exposure to molybdenum in dust was measured in a molybdenite roasting plant. This exposure was accompanied by large elevations of serum ceruloplasmin and smaller increases in mean serum uric acid levels in the workers. Absorption of molybdenum from the dust was demonstrated by increases in plasma and urinary molybdenum levels. It remains necessary to demonstrate whether such exposure results in long-term health effects.

Four cottonseed mills in the southern United States contained high levels of total and respirable dust. A survey of 172 workers showed low prevalences of byssinosis (2-3%) and chronic bronchitis (4%). Mean baseline (out of dust) lung function values were normal. Combustion of dust is an old problem which has gained a new importance since the introduction of electric storage heaters for space heating. Physico-chemical changes caused by heating indoor dust in a model apparatus were investigated. Four dust samples of different origins were heated at three temperatures (200, 400, 600 degrees C) for three residence times (5, 15, 30 min). Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been used in many applications, including electronic products, but little is known about the presence of PFAS in e-waste facilities, especially in North America. In this study, we investigated 87 legacy and novel PFAS in indoor dust samples (n = 19) from two Canadian e-waste dismantling facilities. Shrimp tropomyosin has a similar structure to house dust mite (HDM) tropomyosin. In this research, 232 adult patients with symptoms of persistent allergic rhinitis were randomly selected. In the group, 59% were sensitized to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and 57.8% to Dermatophagoides farinae.
