Interprofessional education between speech pathology and nursing programs: A collaborative e-platform curriculum approach.

Interprofessional practice between nurses and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in healthcare is essential, and it is a priority for both professions. Interprofessional education (IPE) is warranted to move forward professional partnership, and would be best served through incorporation into academic training for both disciplines. A combined synchronous and asynchronous e-platform collaborative approach that minimizes encroachment on already overcrowded clinical curricula is described. Implementation is outlined for use within a graduate-level dysphagia course for SLP students and a medical/s

FIRST things first: a practice-academic collaboration to develop and deliver a competency-based series of applied epidemiology trainings.

The Florida Center for Public Health Preparedness in the University of South Florida College of Public Health and the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) collaborated to design, develop, and deliver two competency-based epidemiology training programs aimed at increasing the epidemiologic preparedness and response capability of the FDOH workforce. They were also designed to meet the requirements of the National Incident Management System and recommendations or needs identified in national studies. The basis for the trainings is an epidemiology competency set developed by the Northwest Center fo

Children's mental and behavioral health, schooling, and socioeconomic characteristics during school closure in France due to COVID-19: the SAPRIS project.

COVID-19 limitation strategies have led to widespread school closures around the world. The present study reports children's mental health and associated factors during the COVID-19 school closure in France in the spring of 2020. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using data from the SAPRIS project set up during the COVID-19 pandemic in France. Using multinomial logistic regression models, we estimated associations between children's mental health, children's health behaviors, schooling, and socioeconomic characteristics of the children's families. The sample consisted of 5702 children ag

Global consensus framework for the safe and equitable implementation of telesurgery and remote surgical education: a society of robotic surgery supported accelerated Delphi study.

An estimated 160 million additional surgical procedures are required annually to address unmet surgical need globally, with the greatest deficits occurring in low- and middle-income countries. While telesurgery has re-emerged as a feasible model for delivering remote operative expertise, its broader implementation remains constrained by unresolved technical, ethical, regulatory, educational, and governance challenges. We aimed to develop an international multidisciplinary consensus framework to guide the safe, equitable, and scalable implementation of telesurgery and remote surgical education.

How did the transition toward virtual education change lecturers' appraisal forms?

This study explores the change in expectations for institutional lecturers during the transition to virtual education before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to examine how the criteria used to evaluate lecturers' performance, as operationalized in student evaluations of teaching (SET), both reflect and shape lecturer roles during the shift to virtual education. The research relies on analysis of feedback forms, including an examination of teaching committee protocols, interviews with academic managers holding positions in teaching centers, and program and department heads. The fi

e-Learning in Phoniatrics and Speech-Language Pathology: Exploratory Analysis of Free Access Tools in Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

BACKGROUND: Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is a therapeutic approach and modality of expression for patients with limited or no expressive language. Speech-language pathologists and phoniatricians need to be competent in AAC to treat patients with complex communication needs. For knowledge acquisition and enhancement in AAC, a significant number of e-learning tools are available. To improve e-learning in AAC, it is essential to understand the attributes of these tools, such as formats, content areas, learning styles, or learning goals. However, these structures have yet to be

Implications of COVID-19 on School Services for Children with Disabilities: Opportunities for Interagency Collaboration.

The transition to virtual and hybrid schooling given the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States has upended the education system and may be widening gaps in service disparities, particularly for children with disabilities. Schools often function as "de facto" service systems for most children with disabilities, particularly those from racially and ethnically minoritized, economically vulnerable, and bilingual populations. The impact of school closures on children with disabilities poses significant ramifications for the medical, behavioral health, and educational systems in which they are serv

Development and evaluation of an online education tool on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder for general practitioners: the important contribution of co-production.

BACKGROUND: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is underdiagnosed in the UK and the assessment and diagnosis pathway often involves a general practitioner (GP) referral to secondary care services. GPs' levels of knowledge and understanding about ADHD is often a significant barrier in patients accessing care. The development of an online education resource could improve GPs knowledge of ADHD and optimise appropriate referrals. Involving end-users in co-creating interventions may enhance their clinical utility and impact routine clinical practice. However, there is limited published

Virtual training of trainers for skill acquisition using blended learning. A new experience of an old format: A pilot project.

Background Blended learning (BL) for skill acquisition is an integral part of the undergraduate curriculum. Teachers may be trained in BL using physical or virtual platforms. Training of Trainers (ToT) using a virtual platform was adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. We report our experience in conducting virtual training to impart hands-on knowledge to trainers about the BL technique. Methods We conducted a virtual ToT workshop to train trainers on a blended model for skill teaching. A moderator and a list of trainers were identified at the host institution. Invitations were sent to other in

Blended online learning for oncologists to improve skills in shared decision making about palliative chemotherapy: a pre-posttest evaluation.

PURPOSE: To improve shared decision making (SDM) with advanced cancer patients, communication skills training for oncologists is needed. The purpose was to examine the effects of a blended online learning (i.e. e-learning and online training session) for oncologists about SDM in palliative oncological care and to compare this blended format with a more extensive, fully in-person face-to-face training format. METHODS: A one-group pre-posttest design was adopted. Before (T0) and after (T2) training, participants conducted simulated consultations (SPAs) and surveys; after the e-learning (T1), an

Issues of COVID-19-related distance learning for children with neuronopathic mucopolysaccharidoses.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the education of children around the world, forcing a large proportion of teaching to be carried out remotely. The implications of this disruption have yet to be fully elucidated, but initial assessments suggest that COVID-19-related school closures and reliance on virtual learning may have a long-term negative impact on educational attainment and future earnings as well as life expectancy of children in the United States. Among children with neurodegenerative disorders, such as neuronopathic mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS disorders), the effects of the pandemic

Visualizing a Framework in Teaching Literacy to Filipino Deaf Students in Multimodal Learning Spaces.

In this article, we visualize a framework of the intersectionality of literacy, spatial justice, and multimodality in teaching literacy to Filipino Deaf students. We propose a metaphor-based framework and discuss how it can be used in teaching literacy to Filipino Deaf students through classroom examples as well as suggestions and recommendations for teachers. We do this mainly through redefining the term literacy, allowing students access to different modalities, and restructuring learning spaces. We also explore the relationship between spatial justice and the concept of Deaf Space and how t

The use of household items to support online surgical knot-tying skills training: a mixed methods study.

BACKGROUND: This study investigated the perceptions and performance of medical students regarding their engagement and learning of a knot-tying skill presented in an online demonstration format due to the emergency remote measures that accompanied COVID-19 restrictions. METHODS: Final-year undergraduate medical students were invited to view an online demonstration of a one-handed knot-tying skill and practice the skill using common household items.
