The purpose of this study was to identify the types of ethical conflict reported by certified registered rehabilitation nurses (CRRNs) and their relationship to demographic, educational, and practice-setting variables. Ethical conflicts expressed by CRRNs in active practice in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia were analyzed according to four themes. Disagreements about medical or institutional practice, patients' rights, and payment issues were the most frequent practice contexts for ethical conflicts, reflecting these nurses' considerable underlying concerns about resource allo

Vaccine hesitancy is a major threat to public health worldwide. Debates about vaccines are often moralized; however, how ethics and ethical judgments relate to vaccination intention remains underexplored. Here, we identify ethically relevant concerns from the academic literature that we operationalize for a pre-registered survey to study how ethical judgments relate to parents' intentions to vaccinate their children against HPV. We also investigate potential sociocultural influences on ethical judgments: we compare parents from the US, the UK, and Germany. We find that parents' ethical judgmen

AIM: To explore the instruments used in measuring genomic competence in nursing. The objective was to understand how ethical issues are reflected in the instruments.
DESIGN: A scoping review.
METHODS: A systematically conducted scoping review was conducted by using CINAHL Complete and Medline databases covering the years from January 2010 to January 2022. Two authors inspected potentially eligible papers and assessed their quality independently using the critical appraisal tools of Joanna Briggs Institute. Twenty-five articles were eligible including 19 different instruments. Included articl

OBJECTIVE: To analyze how and why adoptive families of children with disabilities invent and establish norms of inclusive care in their daily lives.
METHOD: Qualitative study, based on Grounded Theory, carried out in a municipality in southern Brazil, with 11 adoptive families. Individual, face-to-face, semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed using constant comparison and open, axial, and selective coding.
RESULTS: The analysis revealed a substantive theory that explains the invention of inclusive care norms as a relational, dynamic, and situated process. The model links cause

Research ethics committees (RECs) help uphold ethical research, but little is known about how their funding affects their capacity, especially in crises. Via survey data from 324 REC representatives in 80 countries, we examine funding sources, perceived compensation adequacy, and operational challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. About one-fifth reported having no funding for operations or compensation, and only around one-third viewed their compensation as adequate. Funding constraints were more pronounced in low- and middle-income countries and may be associated with greater reported chall

INTRODUCTION: Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be one of the deadliest infectious diseases over the centuries, killing more people worldwide than any other single infectious disease. There is an urgent need for additional strategies which can expedite efforts to combat TB including a preventive vaccine. In this endeavour, we have developed a protocol for a multisite, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial in India that aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of two TB vaccines; namely, VPM1002 and Immuvac (M.w) (Mycobacterium Indicus Pranii) (MIP) among healthy household contacts (HHCs

BACKGROUND: Ethical dilemmas in healthcare arise from conflicts among ethical beliefs, duties, principles, and theories. Midwives face ethical dilemmas in their clinical practice, where their decisions significantly affect the well-being of mothers and infants. However, there is a scarcity of data about midwives' experience of ethical dilemmas in Ethiopia. The aim of this study was to explore the ethical dilemmas faced by midwives in their professional practice in northwestern Ethiopia, 2024.
METHODS: A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted from December 2023 to Jan

The regulation of genomic data sharing in Australia is a confusing mix of common law, legislation, ethical guidelines, and codes of practice. Beyond privacy laws, which only apply to genomic data that meets the definition of personal information, the key regulatory lever is the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) National Statement for Ethical Conduct in Human Research ("National Statement") (2007). Compliance with the National Statement is a requirement for institutions to apply to the NHMRC for funding, and includes-among other things-requirements for review of most genomic

Medical mistrust in rural Appalachia, particularly in West Virginia, originates from a long history of institutional betrayal. Over time, experiences fostered intergenerational skepticism, embedding wariness of health care and research into Appalachian cultural memory. The distrust from structural neglect-hospital closures, provider shortages, and underinvestment-has compounded this mistrust, leaving communities hesitant to engage with outside institutions. Previous initiatives have aimed to build trust through shared decision-making and cultural awareness, but they do not answer all the chall

INTRODUCTION: The European Health Data Space (EHDS) is one of the European Union's most ambitious data-governance projects. It aims to create a common framework through which electronic health data can be accessed and reused across Member States for care, research, innovation, policy, and public-interest purposes. Its practical viability depends not only on digital infrastructure, but also on legal, ethical, and organisational harmonisation, particularly for genetic and genomic data.
METHODS: This paper examines the EHDS with emphasis on the secondary use of health data. It reviews the EHDS i

INTRODUCTION: Norepinephrine (NE) and phenylephrine (PE) are routinely administered vasopressors used to maintain haemodynamic stability during caesarean section. Emerging evidence suggests that sustained infusion of these agents may disrupt maternal blood glucose regulation. This randomised controlled trial aims to compare the effects of NE and PE infusion on changes in postpartum blood glucose levels, insulin concentrations and insulin resistance in women after caesarean delivery.
METHODS ANALYSIS: In this double-blind, randomised trial, 100 eligible parturients will receive prophylactic in

Healthcare systems routinely frame breastfeeding as an ethical and clinical priority requiring institutional protection, particularly in maternity and newborn services. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative represents a global effort to embed these commitments through policy, practice, and environmental support. While these protections are well established for patient-mothers, far less attention has been given to how they are applied to the nursing workforce responsible for enacting them. The authors critically appraise an ethical contradiction experienced by lactating nurse-mothers. Breastfeed

INTRODUCTION: As new topical and systemic treatments become available for atopic dermatitis (AD), there is a need to understand how treatments are being used in routine clinical practice, their comparative effectiveness and their long-term safety in diverse clinical settings.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The TARGET-DERM AD cohort is a longitudinal, observational study of patients with AD of all ages, designed to provide practical information on long-term effectiveness and safety unobtainable in traditional registration trials. Patients with physician-diagnosed AD receiving prescription treatment (to

Reference population DNA databases are essential for accurate forensic statistical calculations, yet Indigenous populations remain significantly underrepresented in most forensic genetic repositories, limiting the scientific accuracy of allele frequency distributions and population genetic parameters in affected countries. This gap is particularly acute in Southeast Asia, where Indigenous peoples comprise substantial populations but are largely absent from forensic databases. This paper reports ethical and governance principles that should be considered in establishing and maintaining Indigeno

Increasing the numbers of health workers and improving their skills requires that countries confront a number of ethical dilemmas. The ethical considerations in answering five important questions on enabling health workers to deal appropriately with the circumstances in which they must work are described. These include the problems of the standards of training and practice required in countries with differing levels of socioeconomic development and different priority diseases; how a society can be assured that health practitioners are properly trained; how a health system can support its worke

In order to bridge the gap between available organs and patients needing transplants, donor selection criteria for donors are increasingly being extended; the possibility of using organs from nonstandard risk donors has been introduced in many countries. This clearly poses considerable ethical issues that should be analyzed and taken into consideration by the competent bodies and institutions. In this article, we illustrate the Italian situation regarding the possibility of using organs from anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) and HCV RNA-positive donors (anti-HCV+ve) in negative recipients (healthy

What should physicians do when an adolescent wishes to risk his physical health and leave the hospital to attend the funeral of his late father? What if the young man's mother, and only remaining guardian, both supports and encourages such a decision? In this Ethics Rounds discussion, we examine the legality, morality, and safety of discharging a minor under such conditions.

INTRODUCTION: In the United States, ectopic pregnancies are relatively common and associated with significant maternal morbidity and mortality. The Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (the Directives) govern the provision of care in Catholic-affiliated hospitals and prohibit the provision of abortion in almost all circumstances. Although ectopic pregnancies are not viable, some Catholic ethicists have argued that the Directives preclude physicians at Catholic hospitals from managing tubal pregnancies with methods and procedures that involve "direct" action agains

INTRODUCTION: Erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL) is an immunological complication of leprosy. ENL results in morbidity and disability and if it is not treated can lead to death. The current treatment consists of thalidomide or high doses of oral corticosteroids for prolonged periods. Thalidomide is not available in many leprosy endemic countries. The use of corticosteroids is associated with morbidity and mortality. Identifying treatment regimens that reduce the use of corticosteroids in ENL is essential. Methotrexate (MTX) is used to treat many inflammatory diseases and has been used successfull
