INTRODUCTION: Estimation of kidney function is crucial in the evaluation of living kidney donor candidates. Despite the multitude of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) formulas, no equation is universal, and none were validated in the population of kidney donors. Novel biomarkers, including beta trace protein (BTP) and cystatin C, are studied to help estimate GFR and improve the safe qualification of living kidney donors.

Fungal dissemination into the bloodstream is a critical step leading to invasive fungal infections. Here, using intravital imaging, we show that Kupffer cells (KCs) in the liver have a prominent function in the capture of circulating Cryptococcus neoformans and Candida albicans, thereby reducing fungal dissemination to target organs. The biodegradation of TCE was studied in a laboratory scale biofilter packed with wood charcoal and inoculated with mixed culture of methanotrophs isolated from local soil. BACKGROUND: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of autoantibodies directly against acetylcholine receptors on postjunctional membranes. The treatment modalities of myasthenia gravis include cholinesterase inhibitors, surgical thymectomy, immunosuppressive treatment, and short-term immunotherapies, including plasmapheresis and intravenous immune globulin. This work was planned by taking into account all the knowledge accumulated from the immunological study of paracoccidioidomycosis. It aimed at comparing a polysaccharide antigen from Histoplasma capsulatum to a classic histoplasmin with the help of intradermal tests of delayed type of hypersensitivity. A lysis filtration system was used in conjunction with conventional broth culture for 1112 blood cultures.
