Oromandibular Dyskinesia: Diagnostic Insights From 18 F-FDG PET/CT Imaging.

Oromandibular dyskinesia is an abnormal, repetitive, involuntary movement of the jaw, tongue, and lips. We report an interesting image of a 72-year-old woman, who underwent 18 F- FDG PET/CT for restaging of treated colon cancer. PET/CT scan shows diffuse uptake in orbicularis oris, muscles of the lips, muscles around the mandible and in the oral cavity, and anterior tongue muscles with no abnormality seen on corresponding CT images. A thorough search into patient history revealed the diagnosis of oromandibular dyskinesia.

Development and application of a novel tumor habitat analysis technique based on dynamical modeling.

BACKGROUND: Oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) exhibits varying responses to chemoradiation therapy, making treatment outcome prediction challenging. Traditional imaging-based methods often fail to capture the spatial heterogeneity within tumors, which influences treatment resistance and disease progression. Advances in modeling techniques allow for more nuanced analysis of this heterogeneity, identifying distinct tumor regions, or habitats, that drive patient outcomes. PURPOSE: To interrogate the association between treatment-induced changes in spatial heterogeneity and chemoradiation resistance of

[Classical Sweet syndrome with multiple organ lesions by 18F-FDG PET/CT: A case report].

Sweet syndrome (acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis) is a relatively rare inflammatory di-sease, which is characterized by the sudden appearance of tender erythematous skin lesions, often accompanied by pyrexia and elevated neutrophil count. The pathogenesis is not clear yet. Recently, multiple studies have found the association between Sweet syndrome and infections, autoimmune diseases, malignant tumors and the application of multiple drugs. According to different causes, Sweet syndrome can be divided into three types: classical (or idiopathic) Sweet syndrome, malignancy-associated Sweet sy

Fluorodeoxyglucose-Positron Emission Tomography in Relapsed/Refractory Hodgkin Lymphoma: A Practical Approach.

BACKGROUND: Positron emission tomography (PET) with the use of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), implemented with low-dosage computer tomography, is to be considered as the most important evolution of imaging in the management and assessment of classical Hodgkin lymphoma patients. SUMMARY: According to Lugano response criteria, FDG-PET is mandatory to define metabolic response to frontline therapy and moreover it is important in the definition of nonresponders or refractory disease patients. Refractory disease is reported in about 15% of patients, with some variations based on the choice of first

Clinical validation of the cingulate island sign visual rating scale in dementia with Lewy bodies.

INTRODUCTION: The cingulate island sign (CIS) is a metabolic pattern on [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) associated with dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The aim of this study was to validate the visual CIS rating scale (CISRs) for the diagnosis of DLB and to explore the clinical correlates. METHODS: This single-center study included 166 DLB patients and 161 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The CIS on [18F]FDG-PET scans was rated using the CISRs independently by three blinded raters. RESULTS: The optimal cut-off to differentiate DLB from AD was a C

An International Survey of Current Clinical Practice in the Treatment of Cardiac Sarcoidosis.

Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) is a potentially serious form of infiltrative cardiomyopathy. Despite scarce evidence, immunosuppressive treatment is generally recommended, but local routines may vary significantly. We sought to survey the clinical practices in the treatment of CS, with the aim that the results may suggest future research priorities. We conducted a web-based survey focused on treatment-naive patients with CS. We subclassified CS according to the presence/absence of overt cardiac presentation (clinically manifest/silent) and to the presence/absence of active inflammation (metabolicall

Intraductal Papilloma With Carcinoma of the Breast Described by Dedicated Breast 18F-FDG PET.

Intraductal papilloma (IDP) is a benign tumor of the breast. However, IDP has been reported to show high uptake of 18F-FDG using whole-body PET. We experienced IDP with low-grade ductal carcinoma in situ using dedicated breast PET, which is more sensitive than whole-body PET. The 18F-FDG uptake of the whole tumor was high, and differentiation between the carcinoma and the residual benign lesion was difficult. This is the first report of IDP detected with dedicated breast PET. Diagnosis of IDP is sometimes controversial; papilloma may show glucose uptake similar to that of low-grade carcinoma.

Intense FDG Uptake in the Common Bile Duct Post-ERCP Mimics Acute Infectious Cholangitis.

In patients with obstructive pancreatitis due to choledocholithiasis, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is the standard of care. ERCP-induced inflammation or infection of the common bile duct (i.e., cholangitis) is a rare complication with a high mortality rate in severe cases. We report an unusual case of incidental findings of intense FDG uptake in the common bile duct one month post-ERCP without clinical features of acute cholangitis, indicative of inflammation of CBD associated with or exaggerated by ERCP.

Patient-Adaptive Population-Based Modeling of Arterial Input Functions.

Kinetic modeling of dynamic PET data requires knowledge of tracer concentration in blood plasma, described by the arterial input function (AIF). Arterial blood sampling is the gold standard for AIF measurement, but is invasive and labour intensive. A number of methods have been proposed to accurately estimate the AIF directly from blood sampling and/or imaging data. Here we consider fitting a patient-adaptive mixture of historical population time course profiles to estimate individual AIFs. Travel time of a tracer atom from the injection site to the right ventricle of the heart is modeled as a

Metabolic activity of the left and right atria are differentially altered in patients with atrial fibrillation and LV dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: Alterations in atrial metabolism may play a role in the perpetuation of atrial fibrillation (AF). This study sought to compare 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake on PET, in patients with LV dysfunction versus those without AF. METHODS: Seventy-two patients who underwent myocardial viability assessment were evaluated. AF patients (36) had persistent or permanent AF based on history and ECG. Patients without AF (36) were matched to AF patients based on sex, diabetes, age, and LVEF. Maximum and mean FDG Standard Uptake Values (SUV) in the left atrial (LA) wall and right atrial (RA)

High-fructose feeding suppresses cold-stimulated brown adipose tissue glucose uptake independently of changes in thermogenesis and the gut microbiome.

Diets rich in added sugars are associated with metabolic diseases, and studies have shown a link between these pathologies and changes in the microbiome. Given the reported associations in animal models between the microbiome and brown adipose tissue (BAT) function, and the alterations in the microbiome induced by high-glucose or high-fructose diets, we investigated the potential causal link between high-glucose or -fructose diets and BAT dysfunction in humans. Primary outcomes are changes in BAT cold-induced thermogenesis and the fecal microbiome (clinicaltrials.gov, NCT03188835). We show tha

Lateralization of the crossed cerebellar diaschisis-associated metabolic connectivities in cortico-ponto-cerebellar and cortico-rubral pathways.

This study aimed to explore the glucose metabolic profile of extrapyramidal system in patients with crossed cerebellar diaschisis (CCD). Furthermore, the metabolic connectivities in cortico-ponto-cerebellar and cortico-rubral pathways associated with CCD were also investigated. A total of 130 CCD positive (CCD+) and 424 CCD negative (CCD-) patients with unilateral cerebral hemisphere hypometabolism on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) were enrolled. Besides, the control group consisted of 56 subjects without any brain structural and metabolic abnormalities. Apar

Neurolymphomatosis in follicular lymphoma: an autopsy case report.

Neurolymphomatosis is a neurological manifestation of lymphoma that involves the cranial or spinal peripheral nerves, nerve roots, and plexus with direct invasion of neoplastic cells. Neurolymphomatosis is rare among patients with low-grade lymphoma. We report an autopsied case of neurolymphomatosis that arose from follicular lymphoma. A 49-year-old woman who presented with pain of her neck and shoulder and numbness of her chin. Computed tomography revealed enlarged lymph nodes in her whole body, and biopsy from the axillary lymph node revealed grade 2 follicular lymphoma. Although the patient

Severe Bartonella henselae bone infection in a kidney transplanted young man.

We present a case of a young kidney transplanted man. He was admitted with lymphadenopathy, fluctuating fever and night sweats 2 months after a cat bite. After admission, he developed severe pain around his right hip. An 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography/CT revealed intense FDG-uptake in lymph nodes, spleen and bone, suggestive of lymphoma. An extracted lymph node showed confluent granulomas, microabscesses with neutrophils and scattered multinucleated giant cells histologically. The patient had history of latent tuberculosis and proteinase 3 -anti-neutrophil cytoplasmi
