A pyogenic granuloma treated with topical timolol.

Pyogenic granulomas are benign vascular tumours usually surgically treated by excision or curettage. The only topical therapy reported to date is imiquimod 5% cream but it produces a marked inflammatory response with discomfort generally worse than simple surgical excision or curettage. Here we report the use of timolol 0·5% ophthalmic gel used successfully to treat a teenager with a clinically classical pyogenic granuloma on the finger. There were no reported adverse effects and the lesion completely resolved. It has not recurred after 7 months. Timolol may be an effective and preferable alte

Urinary bladder pyogenic granuloma: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Although more than 100 cases of hemangioma of the urinary bladder have been reported, capillary-type hemangiomas of the bladder are rare. Pyogenic granulomas, which are common tumor-like vascular lesions of the skin and oral mucous membranes, reveal histopathological findings similar to capillary-type hemangiomas and are differentiated from ordinary hemangiomas by clinical features and etiologic factors. Little is known regarding the occurrence of pyogenic granulomas in the urinary bladder. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 78-year-old Japanese man who had developed a

Concurrent occurrence of mucocele and pyogenic granuloma.

A mucocele is a common, benign lesion of the oral cavity that develops following the extravasation or retention of mucous from a major or minor salivary gland. A pyogenic granuloma (PG) is also a common, benign condition characterized by proliferating capillaries that affect the skin and mucous membranes. The concurrent occurrence of a mucocele and a PG lesion has rarely been reported in the medical literature. This case study reports such a finding in a 16-year-old patient who presented to our department.

Intestinal intussusception due to a pyogenic granuloma.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG), also known as lobular capillary hemangioma, is a benign vascular tumor, most commonly arising on the skin and the oral mucosa. Gastrointestinal localization of PG, except for the oral cavity, is exceptionally rare. We describe a case of ileal PG occurring in a 13-year-old girl, presenting with intestinal obstruction. Histological examination revealed proliferation of capillary-sized vessels, with prominent intravascular component, involving the entire thickness of the intestinal wall. Immunohistochemistry showed positivity for CD31, CD34 and von Willebrand factor, wher

[Dye laser treatment of periungual pyogenic granuloma].

Treatment of pyogenic granuloma may be difficult in locations such as the face and fingertips. We successfully treated a 1 cm periungual fingertip pyogenic granuloma with a dye laser.

Pyogenic granuloma associated with chronic Actinomyces canaliculitis.

A case of chronic Actinomyces canaliculitis with associated pyogenic granuloma formation and bloody tears is described. Although Actinomyces is a well-known cause of canaliculitis, the authors are not aware that it has been reported in association with pyogenic granulomas.

Is pyogenic granuloma associated with Bartonella infection?

Lobular capillary hemangioma and bacillary angiomatosis due to Bartonella infection share several clinical and histopathologic characteristics. We sought to determine whether lobular capillary hemangioma is caused by the same agent as bacillary angiomatosis. Forty-five pathology specimens with a histologic diagnosis of lobular capillary hemangioma obtained from patients with the same clinical diagnosis were tested by immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction for the presence of DNA elements of Bartonella spp. None of the 45 lobular capillary hemangioma specimens tested positive for Ba

Pyogenic granuloma caused by exposed sternotomy wires.

BACKGROUND: This case describes a 75-year-old African American man who developed a pyogenic granuloma on the chest due to trauma induced by exposed sternotomy wires from his coronary bypass procedure. OBJECTIVE: To describe a previously unreported cause of pyogenic granuloma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The pyogenic granuloma was excised and during the procedure, exposed sternotomy wires were uncoiled at the base of the lesion. The sternotomy wires were retightened and reappositioned along the sternum, and the wound was closed primarily. RESULTS: The pyogenic granuloma has not recurred after 15

[Infantile dyspnea due to pyogenic laryngeal granuloma].

Two appearances are outstanding in this case report. First is the clinical picture of chronic laryngeal stridor of a child due to an acquired haemangioma. And that the anatomopathologic subtype of angioma is a pyogenic granuloma noteworthy, as we shall see, the use of the term "pyogenic granuloma" based only on anatomopathological findings in order to circumscribe this lesion.
