Understanding rural Chinese residents' perceptions of palliative care: a grounded theory study of beliefs about a good death.

BACKGROUND: Palliative care development in China remains marked by urban-rural inequality, with service expansion concentrated mainly in urban and better-resourced settings. Older residents in rural areas may therefore face limited access to professional palliative care, despite substantial care needs. This study aimed to explore rural Chinese residents' perceptions of, needs for, and underlying decision-making logic regarding palliative care, to inform the development of culturally responsive rural palliative care services. METHODS: This qualitative study used purposive sampling to recruit r

A Grounded Theory Model of Relationship Decision-Making in Non-Offending Partners of Individuals Accused of Sexual Offending.

Non-offending partners of individuals who have committed sexual offenses often choose to end their relationship given the many negative consequences they face as a result of their partner's offending behavior. Despite a focus on relationships in rehabilitation frameworks and the importance of the relationship for the individual who has offended and their partner, research has thus far failed to examine the process underlying why non-offending partners decide to stay in or leave their relationship following an offense. In this study we developed the first descriptive model of relationship decis

Social identity coupling model in university students in high-level sports teams: based on grounded theory and fsQCA.

BACKGROUND: University students from high-level sports teams in China assume dual roles as formal students and elite athletes. This study develops a localized social identity coupling model to address the theoretical and empirical gaps in the existing literature. METHOD: Based on social identity theory, this study employs a mixed-method research paradigm integrating grounded theory and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). The sample comprises 36 university students from high-level sports teams in China recruited from six universities. Semi-structured interviews and three-stage

Building better outcomes: A grounded theory approach to understanding creation and management of surgical data systems in Ethiopia.

Surgical outcomes in low- and middle-income countries are significantly worse than in their high-income country counter parts. Registries are an important tool in quality improvement as they facilitate collection and analysis of comprehensive patient data to be used for benchmarking outcomes. Despite the known efficacy of such registries, they are sparse in low- and middle-income countries. Ethiopia, however has had success implementing perioperative data collection systems at a national as well as local level. This qualitative study seeks to understand the experience of creating and managing

Connecting Through Emotions: A Social Constructivist Grounded Theory on How Palliative Care Clinicians Use Their Emotions During Consultations.

BACKGROUND: Palliative care clinicians are regularly exposed to emotionally laden situations. While emotions are an intrinsic part of their encounters with patients and relatives, the role of clinicians' own emotions has remained understudied. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to explore how palliative care clinicians use their emotions during end-of-life care consultations. DESIGN: We conducted a qualitative study using individual interviews with palliative care clinicians from different backgrounds and countries. PARTICIPANTS: Twenty-two palliative care clinicians from 10 different countries participat

Behavioral health providers' prioritization of tobacco and marijuana concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic: A grounded theory analysis.

Given the high co-occurrence of tobacco, marijuana use, and mental health disorders, we explored behavioral health providers' perceptions of patient mental health and substance use during the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 21 Ohio providers randomly sampled from state licensure records, analyzing data using constructivist grounded theory. Providers perceived broad increases in substance use and mental health symptoms, attributing these to isolation, reduced support access, and pandemic-related stress. Providers consciously de-prioritized tobacco and marijuana t

Information, involvement, self-care and support-The needs of caregivers of people with stroke: A grounded theory approach.

BACKGROUND: Globally, stroke is a leading cause of death and disability, with most care undertaken by caregivers who are generally family and friends without prior experience of care. The lack of experience or unpreparedness results in feelings of uncertainty, burnout, anxiety, burden, etc. Hence, it is necessary to identify the needs of caregivers to better support them in their caregiving journey and improve the quality of care delivered. METHODS: The study employed a grounded theory methodology that utilizes information gathered from literature reviews and social media to represent the nee
