Histiocytic sarcoma is an uncommon neoplasm of mature histiocytes with a poor clinical outcome. We report a case of a true histiocytic sarcoma with prominent and evenly distributed multinucleated giant cells that mimics a giant cell tumor of soft tissue. The tumor was located between the appendix, right ovary, and the terminal ileum with severe adhesion. The liver and spleen were not enlarged. Grossly, the tumor appeared grayish white, solid, and soft. Microscopically, polygonal mononuclear tumor cells aggregated to form somewhat epithelioid nests, which occasionally showed coagulative necrosi

Histiocytic sarcomas (HSs) are uncommon malignant neoplasms in cats, typically affecting older animals and not previously associated with feline leukemia virus (FeLV). Here, we describe 2 cases of disseminated HS in young FeLV-positive domestic shorthair cats that clinically and grossly mimicked lymphoma. Case 1, a 1-y-old female cat, was presented with hemiplegia and dysuria and was euthanized because of the clinical suspicion of spinal lymphoma. Case 2, a 4-y-old male cat, had hyporexia, ocular abnormalities, and bilateral renal enlargement and was euthanized because of the clinical suspicio

INTRODUCTION: Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignant disease with a poor prognosis and unknown pathogenesis. In addition, this disease is difficult to diagnose due to the wide variety of diseases to be differentiated from it.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old woman with right-sided chest pain was referred to our hospital. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a 30-mm mass with osteolytic changes in the right eighth rib. Further examination revealed a rib mass, right renal mass, anterior mediastinal nodule, bilateral pulmonary nodules, and suprasellar nodule. A needle biopsy of the rib mass r

Splenic histiocytic sarcoma (SHS) is a rare, aggressive hematological malignancy with unclear progression and management. Our case illustrates the progression and pathophysiological processes of SHS and provides key data for the diagnosis, treatment and management of SHS. A 60-year-old female with incidentally detected splenic mass (6.0 cm × 5.7 cm) underwent splenectomy, confirmed as SHS in 2020. Post-op imatinib therapy was given. In 2022, hepatic metastases (2.4 cm × 2.9 cm) with pancytopenia led to supportive care. Lesions enlarged to 4.3 cm × 2.7 cm, leading to multi-organ failure and dea

Histiocytic sarcoma is a tumor of the lymphohematopoietic system characterized by macrophage morphology and immunophenotype. Here, we report FDG PET/CT images of a 50-year-old man with coexisting histiocytic sarcoma of the liver and spleen. Images showed multiple enhanced uptake lesions of FDG in both the liver and spleen. Ultimately, histiocytic sarcoma was confirmed by the biopsy histopathology.

BACKGROUND: Development of secondary tumor after CART treatment is not well investigated. We report a pediatric B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) patient who developed histiocytic sarcoma shortly after CART therapy.
CASE REPORT: A 9-year-old boy diagnosed with relapsed B-ALL presenting the KRAS A146T mutation received autologous mouse-derived CD19 and CD22 chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy at our center (Chinese Clinical Trial Registry: ChiCTR2000032211). Thirty days post-CART therapy, the bone marrow showed complete remission. At 85 days post-CART therapy, the boy presented

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is an extremely rare non-Langerhans cell disorder with an aggressive course and limited treatment options. HS most often presents at an advanced clinical stage, with a limited response to chemotherapy and high mortality. No standard treatment has been established for HS. We herein describe the first case of HS concomitant with laryngeal carcinoma that was promptly diagnosed and successfully treated; the condition of the patient has remained stable for 4 years with no recurrence.

BACKGROUND: Follicular dendritic cell sarcomas (FDCSs) and histiocytic sarcomas (HSs) are exceedingly rare tumors. Most of the data on those entities are based on case reports or small case series. The natural history and response to different treatment modalities have not been well established.
AIMS: To analyze the clinicopathologic features, immunophenotypic profile, treatment responses and to add to the existing data on FDCS and HS.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective descriptive study.
MATERIALS AND METHOD: The study was conducted at the department of Oncopathology at a tertiary care cancer hos

Cancer-testis antigens (CTAs) are a category of self proteins aberrantly expressed in diverse malignancies, mostly solid tumours, due to epigenetic de-repression. Normally expressed only in fetal or gametogenic tissues, CTAs are tantalizing immunotherapy targets, since autoimmunity risks appear minimal. Few prevalent CTAs have been identified in human hematologic cancers, and just two in their veterinary counterparts. We sought to discover new CTAs in canine hematologic cancers such as histiocytic sarcoma (HS) and lymphoma to foster immunotherapy development. To accomplish this, the ligandome

Histiocytic sarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm of presumed hematopoietic origin showing morphologic and immunophenotypic evidence of histiocytic differentiation. Somatic mutation importance in the pathogenesis or disease progression of histiocytic sarcoma was largely unknown. To identify somatic mutations in histiocytic sarcoma, we studied 5 histiocytic sarcomas [3 female and 2 male patients; mean age 54.8 (20-72), anatomic sites include lymph node, uterus, and pleura] and matched normal tissues from each patient as germ line controls. Somatic mutations in 50 "Hotspot" oncogenes and tumor su

BACKGROUND: Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignant tumor. Underlying or associated disorders have been reported in some patients with HS. We herein report a very rare case of HS combined with acute monocytic leukemia (AMoL).
CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old man presented with systemic lymph node enlargement and pancytopenia in August 2012. Bone marrow (BM) aspirate showed abnormal hematopoiesis with 3% blast, but no obvious abnormalities on flow cytometric immunophenotyping. A BM cytogenetic study and fluorescence in situ hybridization revealed a 46, XY karyotype and no myelodysplastic

The authors report on a case of histiocytic sarcoma (HS) in a pediatric patient presenting with a solitary tumor in the cerebellum, with the aim of providing insight into primary HS in the CNS, which is especially rare. A 17-month-old Japanese girl presented with a 2-week history of progressive gait disturbance. Brain MRI revealed a 4.7 × 4.3 × 4.3-cm well-demarcated solitary mass in the right hemisphere of the cerebellum, initially suggestive of medulloblastoma, ependymoma, or anaplastic astrocytoma. On intraoperative inspection the cerebellar tumor showed intensive dural attachment and was s

This article describes a rare malignant spinal tumor successfully treated with total en bloc spondylectomy via a posterior approach. The purpose of this study was to emphasize the occurrence of primary histiocytic sarcoma in the lumbar spine. Histiocytic sarcomas are rare, malignant neoplasms of the lymphohematopoietic system that usually occur in the skin, lymph nodes, and intestinal tracts. Primary spinal column histiocytic sarcoma is rare. To the authors' knowledge, no reports have been published of treating this tumor with total en bloc spondylectomy.A 27-year-old woman presented with a 2-

Seven novel cell lines from canine histiocytic sarcoma (HS), three of which were disseminated cutaneous HS and four of which were synovial HS, were established. All of the established cell lines had the same morphological (by light and electron microscopic findings), cytochemical (alpha-naphthyl butyrate esterase-positive), and immunohistochemical (vimentin- and lysozyme-positive, and cyto-keratin-negative) characteristics as the original HS tumor cells. All of the established cell lines injected into nude mice subcutaneously produced solid tumors. Because the established cell lines also showe

Histiocytic disorders of dogs include histiocytoma, localized histiocytic sarcoma (HS), disseminated HS (malignant histocytosis), and the reactive histiocytoses: cutaneous and systemic. A common element to these diseases is proliferation of dendritic cells (DC) of either Langerhans cell (epithelial DC) or interstitial DC lineage. In this report, 17 dogs with hemophagocytic HS are described. Breeds affected included Bernese Mountain Dog (6), Golden Retriever (4), Rottweiler (3), Labrador Retriever (2), a mixed-breed dog, and a Schnauzer, which were from 2.5 to 13 years old. The dogs presented w

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare neoplasm that occurs most commonly in the intestinal tract, skin, soft tissue, and lymph node. The incidence of primary central nervous system (CNS) HS is even rarer, with a total of 6 cases reported in the literature. An etiologic link has not been identified for CNS HS, and the current case of primary CNS HS is unique in that an etiologic link to prior radiation therapy is identified, associated with complex cytogenetic abnormalities in the tumor. Although radiation-associated sarcomas can present as any number of different pathologic entities, this is the
