The hydrogenation metabolism process of rosmarinic acid by microbial enzymes in chickens.

BACKGROUND: The gut microbiota plays a critical role in the metabolism of rosmarinic acid (RA) through converting RA to caffeic acid (CA), d … sses. NADH:flavin oxidoreductase and 3-oxoacyl-[acyl-carrier-protein] reductase participated in the hydrogenation reaction of RA, and BaiCD involved in dehydroxylation reaction of RA. CONCLUSION: The hydrogenation process by microbial enzymes was an important metabolic pathway of RA. These hydrogenation products contribute to improving the biological function …

Spinel Nanostructures for the Hydrogenation of CO2 to Methanol and Hydrocarbon Chemicals.

Composite oxides have been widely applied in the hydrogenation of CO/CO2 to methanol or as the component of bifunctional oxide-zeolite for the synthesis of hydrocarbon chemicals. However, it is still challenging to disentangle the stepwise formation mechanism of CH3OH at working conditions and selectively convert CO2 to hydrocarbon chemicals with narrow distribution. Here, we investigate the reaction network of the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol over a series of spinel oxides (AB2O4), among which the Zn-based nanostructures offer superior performance in methanol synthesis. Through a series o…

CO2 hydrogenation to ethanol over Pt-Co3O4 catalysts: Effects of Pt promoter.

Direct hydrogenation of CO2 to ethanol is a promising approach for utilizing CO2. However, it still faces challenges such as lower selectivity and unclear C-C coupling mechanisms. In this work, we prepared Co3O4 catalysts and Pt-loaded Co3O4 catalysts (Pt-Co3O4) to investigate the influence of Pt on the properties of Co3O4 catalysts and the CO2 hydrogenation process. At 240°C and 3.2 MPa, the reduced 1wt. % Pt-Co3O4 catalyst showed 0.265 mmol/(g·h) ethanol yield, while the ethanol yield of the reduced Co3O4 catalyst was negligible. The characterization results revealed that the presence of Pt …

Oxygen Vacancy-Enriched Alumina Stabilized Pd Nanocatalysts for Selective Hydrogenation of Phenols.

The prevalence of electronic defects has not been successfully demonstrated in nonreducible oxides. This work presents a straightforward app … ne Pd nanoparticles on alumina. The produced Pd nanocatalysts are highly effective in the selective hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone, achieving a high catalytic performance under mild conditions (30 °C and 0.1 MPa of H2). Systematic mechanism investigations reveal that hydroxyl radicals generated at the catalyst interfaces facilitate the activation of p …

Cinchona-alkaloid-derived NN ligands for ruthenium catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones.

A range of cinchona-alkaloid-derived NN ligands bearing N-H were employed for the asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones. By substituting N-H of the ligands, we demonstrated that the N-H moiety was essential for asymmetric hydrogenation and that without the N-H moiety asymmetric hydrogenation could not proceed, based on which a proposed mechanism is discussed. The effectiveness of the optimal ligand was evaluated on various aromatic and α,β-unsaturated ketones, producing the corresponding alcohols with up to 98.8% ee and good yields.

Revealing the Kinetic Balance between Proton-Feeding and Hydrogenation in CO2 Electroreduction.

Electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 to high-value-added chemicals provides a feasible path for global carbon balance. Herein, the fabrication … confirmed that the proper content of NiSA and NiNP balanced kinetic between proton-feeding and CO2 hydrogenation. The NiNP in NiNP2 @NiSA2 -NG promoted the formation of H* and reduced the energy barrier of *CO2 hydrogenation to *COOH, and CO desorption can be efficiently facilitated by NiSA sites, thereby resulting in enhanced CO2 RR performance.

Photoresponsive Azobenzene-Functionalized Shell Cross-Linked Micelles for Selective Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation.

We describe the substrate-selective asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones using rhodium complexes immobilized on a photoresponsive nanoreactor. The nanoreactor switches its morphology upon light irradiation in a wavelength-selective manner. Kinetic studies show that the gated behavior in the cross-linking layer is key to discriminating among substrates and reagents during catalysis. Under ultraviolet light irradiation, the nanoreactor displays substrate selectivity, converting smaller ketone substrates faster to the corresponding secondary alcohols.

Dynamic Kinetic Resolution of β-Substituted α-Diketones via Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation.

Developing innovative dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR) modes and achieving the highly regio- and enantioselective semihydrogenation of unsymmetrical α-diketones are two formidable challenges in the field of contemporary asymmetric (transfer) hydrogenation. In this work, we report the highly regio- and stereoselective asymmetric semi-transfer hydrogenation of unsymmetrical α-diketones through a unique DKR mode, which features the reduction of the carbonyl group distal from the labile stereocenter, while the proximal carbonyl remains untouched. Moreover, the protocol affords a variety of enantio…

Mechanism of Potassium tert-Butoxide-Catalyzed Ketones Hydrogenation in the Solution Phase.

The mechanism of ketones homogeneous hydrogenation with t-BuOK in tert-butanol is currently portrayed as the one proceeding via a six-membered [2 + 2 + 2] cyclic transition state involving the H2 molecule, the base, and a ketone. However, the concerted nature of the reaction is inconsistent with a number of experimental observations. Here we reanalyze available experimental data and revise the mechanism of this paradigmatic reaction based on the static and dynamic density functional theory (DFT) calculations in solution phase. In contrast to the gas-phase profile where the overall reaction occ…

Cinchona-Alkaloid-Derived NNP Ligand for Iridium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation of Ketones.

Most ligands applied for asymmetric hydrogenation are synthesized via multistep reactions with expensive chemical reagents. Herein, a series of novel and easily accessed cinchona-alkaloid-based NNP ligands have been developed in two steps. By combining [Ir(COD)Cl]2, 39 ketones including aromatic, heteroaryl, and alkyl ketones have been hydrogenated, all affording valuable chiral alcohols with 96.0-99.9% ee. A plausible reaction mechanism was discussed by NMR, HRMS, and DFT, and an activating model involving trihydride was verified.

Rhodium nanoparticles stabilized by ferrocenyl-phosphine ligands: synthesis and catalytic styrene hydrogenation.

A series of ferrocenylphosphine-stabilized rhodium nanoparticles has been prepared in one pot from the organometallic [Rh(η3-C3H5)3] precursor. This complex has been decomposed by hydrogen treatment (3 bar) in dichloromethane in the presence of five different ferrocene-based phosphine ligands. Very small rhodium nanoparticles in the size range of 1.1-1.7 nm have been obtained. These nanoparticles have shown activity in a model catalytic reaction, namely the hydrogenation of styrene. These results evidence that the metal surface is not blocked despite the steric bulk of the stabilizing ligands.…

Aminotriazole Mn(I) Complexes as Effective Catalysts for Transfer Hydrogenation of Ketones.

A catalytic system based on complexes comprising abundant and cheap manganese together with readily available aminotriazole ligands is reported. The new Mn(I) complexes are catalytically competent in transfer hydrogenation of ketones with 2-propanol as hydrogen source. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions at 80 °C for 20 h with 3 % of catalyst loading using either KO t Bu or NaOH as base. Good to excellent yields were obtained for a wide substrate scope with broad functional group tolerance. The obtained results by varying the substitution pattern of the ligand are consistent with an ou…

Iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of 3,3-disubstituted allylic alcohols in ethereal solvents.

Ir-phosphinomethyl-oxazoline complexes have been identified as efficient, highly enantioselective catalysts for the asymmetric hydrogenation of 3,3-disubstituted allylic alcohols and related homoallylic alcohols. In contrast to other N,P ligand complexes, which require weakly coordinating solvents, such as dichloromethane, these catalysts perform well in more ecofriendly THF or 2-MeTHF. Their synthetic potential was demonstrated with the formal total synthesis of four bisabolane sesquiterpenes.

Effect of biogenic fermentation impurities on lactic acid hydrogenation to propylene glycol.

The effect of residual impurities from glucose fermentation to lactic acid (LA) on subsequent ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogenation of LA to propylene glycol (PG) is examined. Whereas refined LA feed exhibits stable conversion to PG over carbon-supported ruthenium catalyst in a trickle bed reactor, partially refined LA from fermentation shows a steep decline in PG production over short (<40 h) reaction times followed by a further slow decay in performance. Addition of model impurities to refined LA has varying effects: organic acids, sugars, or inorganic salts have little effect on conversion; ala…

Air-stable catalysts for highly efficient and enantioselective hydrogenation of aromatic ketones.

A series of chiral trans-[RuCl(2)(dipyridylphosphine)(1,2-diamine)] complexes have been synthesized and characterized by NMR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. These Ru complexes combined with (CH(3))(3)COK in 2-propanol formed a very effective catalyst system for the hydrogenation of a diverse range of simple aromatic ketones with high activity (substrate-to-catalyst ratio up to 100 000) and excellent enantioselectivity (up to >99.9%). The catalyst system was also found to be stable in solution even under a normal atmosphere.

Ruthenium-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of imines by propan-2-ol in benzene.

Transfer hydrogenation of a variety of different imines to the corresponding amines by propan-2-ol in benzene catalyzed by [Ru2(CO)4(mu-H)(C4Ph4COHOCC4Ph4)] (1) has been studied. The reaction is highly efficient with turnover frequencies of over 800 per hour, and the product amines were obtained in excellent yields. A remarkable concentration dependence of propan-2-ol was observed when the reaction was run in benzene as cosolvent. An optimum was obtained at 24 equivalents of propan-2-ol to imine, and further increase of the propan-2-ol led to a dramatic decrease in rate. Also the use of polar …

Ni-Ga/ZrO2 catalysts redirect CO2 hydrogenation toward oxygenates at industrially relevant pressures.

An intermetallic Ni-Ga/ZrO2 catalyst enables CO2 hydrogenation toward oxygenates under pressures up to 100 bar. Combined catalytic, in situ DRIFTS, and 100 h stability studies show that the Ni-Ga-GaOx-ZrO2 interface suppresses methanation, enhances methanol productivity, and enables ethanol and C2-C3 formation through a formate-mediated pathway.
