Renal replacement lipomatosis with coexisting xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis in a pregnant woman.

Renal replacement lipomatosis of the kidney is a rare entity characterized by renal sinus and perirenal fat proliferation often caused by renal calculi. Most of the renal parenchyma is replaced by fat and the kidney is usually small, atrophic and nonfunctioning. We report magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasonography findings of a pregnant woman with xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis and renal replacement lipomatosis coexisting in the same kidney.

[A case of bilateral infection-induced urolithiasis in a bed-ridden elderly female].

A 79-year-old bedridden female in whom bilateral small renal calculi were pointed nine months previously, presented with a high fever and non-specific abdominal symptoms. A diagnosis of bilateral renal and ureteral stones causing hydronephroureters with severe infection was made. She was referred to the urology department and treated with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). Persistent urinary tract infection caused by urease-producing bacteria, often seen in the bedridden elderly contributes to form infection-induced renal calculi. Such calculi are sometimes found in bilateral kidney

Xanthogranulomatous Pyelonephritis in a Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Immigrant Child: A Case Report.

Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) is a rare, chronic inflammatory kidney disease characterized by progressive destruction of the renal parenchyma, typically associated with obstructive uropathy and nephrolithiasis. It is especially uncommon in pediatric patients and may be mistaken for malignancy or other renal infections, leading to delays in diagnosis. We present the case of a 13-year-old socioeconomically disadvantaged and immigrant (SDI) girl who developed advanced XGP due to unmonitored renal stones and limited access to healthcare. She presented with prolonged fever, flank pain, w

A Case Report of Multiple Renal Calculi Treated With Individualized Homoeopathy.

BACKGROUND: Mineral buildups called kidney stones can be free-floating or affixed to the renal papillae and occur in the renal calyces and pelvis. A major morbidity is associated with the widespread problem of renal stone disease. Open surgical lithotomy and minimally invasive endourological procedures are now the standard for the management of kidney stone symptoms. However, individualized homeopathy (iHOM) has greatly improved treatment of Multiple Renal Calculi. METHODS: In the OPD of Dr. D. Y. Patil Homoeopathic Medical College and Research Centre, a 26-year-old female patient with multip

Percutaneous nephrostomy in conjunction with ESWL in treatment of nephrolithiasis.

The use of percutaneous nephrostomies (PCNs) in 1456 patients (1660 kidneys) treated with extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) was evaluated. In this group, 138 PCNs (130 patients) were performed in 133 kidneys. Forty-seven percent of PCNs were placed in patients with staghorn calculi; 24% were for stones in the renal pelvis, and 20% for ureteral stones. The most common indication for PCN was fever and obstruction (57%). In 15%, the indications were failure to decompress an obstructed system from a retrograde direction, clogged double-J ureteral stents, and perforation of the ureter. P

[Transperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy for upper ureteral calculi: a report of 1171 cases].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate clinical outcomes and values of transperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy. METHODS: A total of 1171 patients with upper ureteral calculi were recruited during September 1999 to February 2012. The etiologies included impacted calculi (n = 1100), non-impacted calculi (n = 71), multiple ureteral calculi (n = 51) and combined small calculi in unilateral kidney (n = 139). Maximum diameter of calculi was 1.5 (0.8-2.6) cm. All patients underwent transperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy and double J stent was implanted intraoperatively. RESULTS: Two cases were convert

[A case of spontaneous pyeloduodenal fistula].

A 61-year-old woman visited our hospital complaining of right flank pain and fever. The radiograph demonstrated multiple renal calculi. Radio renography showed no uptake in the right kidney. Therefore, we diagnosed her with pyonephrosis, and recommended open nephrectomy. However, she selected the conservative treatment with extra corporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL). In spite of disappearance of multiple calculi, pyuria continued for 3 months after ESWL. Retrograde pyelography showed a fistula from the right pelvis into the duodenum. The patient was successfully treated by nephrectomy and du

Salvage of an obstructed single kidney by combined percutaneous nephrostomy, percutaneous stone extraction and alkalinisation.

A 72-year-old woman with a single kidney and renal calculi was admitted as an emergency with sepsis and anuria. Renal drainage was established by percutaneous nephrostomy (PTN) as an emergency procedure. A nephrostogram showed multiple lucent stones and a single opaque calculus in the renal pelvis. The definitive treatment of the mixed calculi was carried out through the PTN. The lucent stones were dissolved by alkaline irrigation and the opaque stone removed by a biliary basket via the dilated tract. The safety and simplicity of PTN as an emergency procedure and its use for definitive treatme

In vitro renal calculi destruction by a high-frequency glow discharge plasma.

Despite the progress made in the treatment of nephrolithiasis, the existing methods of renal calculi destruction are not ideal and have both advantages and disadvantages. Considering the process of high-frequency glow discharge formation on the surface of an electrode and in an electrolyte solution, we obtained the results on the destruction of renal calculi in vitro. It was shown that the destruction of kidney stones by glow discharge plasma was caused by several processes-the plasma induced effect of hydrated electrons and shock wave effect of the electrolyte stimulated by electrical breakdo

Treatment of a patient with total urinary calculi: a case report.

Urinary tract stones are a general term for stone disease in various parts of the urinary system and are common diseases of the urinary system. According to the location of the stone, it is divided into kidney stones, ureteral stones, bladder stones, urethra stones. Total urinary calculi occur less frequently, usually accompanied by severe clinical symptoms and difficult to treat. A 76-year-old man was admitted to hospital with repeated bladder stones for 7 years, repeated dysuria with frequent urination and dysuria for 2 months. After admission, the patient improved the relevant examination,

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy using the Dornier MPL 9000 lithotriptor.

336 patients with urinary calculi were treated between June 1988 and October 1991 with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy using the Dornier MPL 9000 lithotriptor. Of 352 renal units (a kidney and its ureter), 286 had renal stones, 62 had ureteral stones and 10 had both. There were radiolucent stones in 6 units. The complete disintegration rate was 94%. The mean number of shock waves was 2,973, the range being from 300 to 16,131. In 310 of 447 (64%) sessions, treatment was done without any anesthesia. The rate of complete removal was 67.3% 3 months after the last treatment. Only 11 patients

The expectation of free and fixed particles in urinary stone disease.

There is a paucity of literature concerning the origin of urinary stone disease. This report uses information currently available to examine the likelihood of urinary stone disease starting from free or fixed crystalluric particles. We conclude that stone disease in the renal tubules and renal pelvis cannot begin on unattached (free) particles. However, in conditions associated with stone formation, initiation of bladder stone disease on free particles seems quite likely.

[Treatment of staghorn calculi by extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy in children].

UNLABELLED: To evaluate the efficacy of monotherapy with extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for staghorn calculi in children. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between September 1987 and December 1998, 27 children (18 boys and 9 girls) with a mean age of 5.2 years (9 months to 147 years) were managed in our department for staghorn or pseudo-staghorn calculi. They were treated with a Lithostar Siemens-Ultra lithotriptor ith ultrasound detection. The "Puigvert method", which starts with low energy which is then gradually increased, allows satisfactory painless fragmentation, avoiding the need for

Migrating Staghorn Calculus Secondary to a Renocolic Fistula: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Background: Staghorn calculi are large renal stones which occupy most of the renal pelvis and are commonly associated with chronic or recurrent upper urinary tract infections (rUTIs). They often require more aggressive management, such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) or nephrectomy, although conservative management may be a safer option for select patients, particularly those with significant comorbidities. The presence of chronic stones or recurrent infections in the kidney increases the risk of complications, including fistula and abscess formation. Case Presentation: A 68-year-old fe
