Obstetric and gynecologic malpractice claims in Saudi Arabia: Incidence and cause.

INTRODUCTION: The occurrence of a bad outcome, injury or death of a patient during treatment increases the chance of malpractice litigation, increases legal responsibility and leads to increased fees for malpractice insurance. Physicians practicing obstetrics and gynecology face among the highest risks of malpractice litigation, and such litigation has led to an increase in the practice of defensive medicine and has made this specialty less appealing. Previous clinical data from Saudi Arabia have shown that more malpractice litigation concerns claims in obstetrics and gynecology than claims in…

Additional goals of this study were to quantify costs associated with claims, determine independent risk factors for making an indemnity payment, and illustrate trends over time. METHODS: Seventy closed malpractice claims filed for alleged negligent treatment of distal radius fractures by orthopedic surgeons insured by the largest medical professional liability insurer in New York State (N…

Shock therapy and psychiatric malpractice: the legal accommodation to a controversial treatment.

Shock therapy has developed over the years into an accepted form.of psychiatric treatment for relieving the symptoms of certain mental illnesses. The development of shock therapy did and still does take place in a legal environment which leaves the reasonable psychiatrist free to experiment. The discovery of muscle-relaxing drugs and their introduction into the treatment procedure were undoubtedly encouraged by the possibility of malpractice suits arising from bone fracture caused by rapidly contracting muscles. Today the incidence of malpractie suits involving shock therapy has been reduced, …

Late mandibular fracture after third molar extraction: a malpractice case or not?

Forensic odontology (FO) is grounded in a well-established historical framework, necessitating adherence to minimum standards to ensure quality on an international scale. Nonetheless, these standards frequently fail to account for the considerable variability in challenges, resources, and practices at the national or local levels. The Dominican Republic, the second-largest nation by area after Cuba in the Antilles and the second-largest by population after Haiti, has exhibited one of the highest economic growth rates in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, it also faces complexities and c
