A solid variant of Aneurysmal Bone cyst is very rare tumour of maxilla. Histopathologically it is very much similar to giant cell granuloma but the radiographic features can influence the pathologic interpretation.A solid variant of anenurysmal bone cyst has been reported in facial bones and it can involve several adjacent bone synchronously (3). Both giant cell granuloma and aneurysmal bone cyst have a propensity for recurrence variably in the 15%-26% range (5).

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the significant differences in clinicopathologic features of aneurysmal bone cyst in the maxilla and mandible.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A search of the literature showed 30 recorded maxillary cases, and these together with one previously unrecorded case formed the basis of the study.
RESULTS: There were no differences in the age and sex incidence. Only two patients complained of pain, and no patient complained of tenderness. No patient gave a history of trauma. Swelling was present in virtually every patient. In seven cases, there was tooth mobility or migration o…

Facial bone and especially mandibular fractures are injuries in which first aid and management of late complications require dental professionals, and consequently all dentists should be familiar with the modern principles of their treatment. Tooth involvement is common in mandibular and maxillary fractures and can require more treatment than does the jaw fracture. Nonsurgical treatment of bone fractures involves immobilization, which for the facial bones is achieved with maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) using dental fixed arch bars. Hence, associated tooth injuries are difficult or impossible…

Giant cell lesions of the maxilla and paranasal sinuses represent a rare, locally aggressive disorder which present as a soft tissue mass with distinct histologic and clinical features. There is considerable controversy on the therapeutic modalities, the prediction of clinical behavior based on histologic features, and whether these growths are reactive or neoplastic in nature. We present our clinical experience with four of these lesions. Follow-up ranged from 3 to 11 years. Our results and the rationale for aggressive surgical treatment will be discussed. We hypothesize that giant cell "gran…

An 8-year-old Hannoverian horse developed a swelling of the maxilla caused by a tumour of the hard palate. On histological examination the tumour was diagnosed as a primary intra-osseous carcinoma of the maxilla, a rare odontogenic tumour not previously described in the horse.

Maxillary surgical defects resulting from resection of oral neoplasms vary in size from small perforations of the hard and soft palate to complete removal of these structures. Osteogenic sarcoma is of unknown etiology and is a rapidly growing tumor that may produce pain, paresthesia, and anesthesia. The recommended treatment of radical resection often results in defects that produce significant orofacial disfigurement. These defects, regardless of size, present significant functional disability, with compromised esthetics, mastication, and deglutition. Restoration with a maxillary obturator pr…

A modified surgical procedure to expand as well as reduce the width of the hard palate is described. Instead of a single sagittal osteotomy in the midline of the palate, multiple sagittal osteotomies are performed parallel to each other and maintaining the periosteal attachment to each of the fragments. The hard palate is thereby moveable and can be reduced in a transverse direction as well as expanded. The expansion will, however, be limited to the height of the curvature of the palate. Minor complications with the method are described. Long-term postoperative follow-up shows stable results w

This technique is an adaptation of the double-flask technique that is well-known for the fabrication of the hollow bulb portion of a maxillary obturator. It can be used only for patients with both an atrophic maxillary alveolar ridge and a greater than usual interocclusal distance. Anything less will not permit fabrication of a hollow denture.

Paget disease of the maxilla and mandible is not rare. There appears to be a significant correlation between skull involvement in the form of osteoporosis circumscripta and maxillofacial changes. The maxillary component can be of the typical form of Paget disease or be in the form of hypercementosis. The latter change is not well recognized and we present two cases with such involvement.
