Predictors of post-hospital employment status for psychiatric patients in Hong Kong: from perceptions of rehabilitation professionals to empirical evidence.

Fifty participants with mental illness and a concrete discharge plan were selected from two mental hospitals in Hong Kong and assessed on their Psychosocial support by the Chinese Version of the Significant Others Scale, social vocational competence using the Workshop Behavior Checklist and the Vocational Social Skills Scale, medical history, work history, and demographic variables. At three months after discharge, the employed participants (n = 12) were shown to have better psychosocial support and social vocational competence than the unemployed participants (n = 24) by univariate comparison

Psychopathology in Dutch women with terrorist behaviours: empirical case series study.

BACKGROUND: Current empirical understanding of the relationship between psychopathology and terrorist behaviours in women is limited, because most research focuses on male perpetrators and relies on secondary sources. Addressing this gap is crucial, particularly given previous research that highlights significant differences in mental health problems between women and men involved in non-terrorist violent activities. AIMS: To empirically examine the presence of psychopathology in women exhibiting terrorist behaviours, as well as its potential role in these behaviours. METHOD: A case series s

Reasons for job loss: a review of employment termination studies of mentally retarded workers.

The current emphasis on employment preparation for mentally retarded people requires that more attention be focused on job retention. Knowledge of the reasons why mentally retarded workers were fired from their jobs could contribute to that effort. This article reviews studies over a 35 year period that have examined job loss in mentally retarded workers. First, reasons for job loss that relate to workers' vocational competence were separated from other reasons for job loss, such as economic and family factors. Then, reasons relating to vocational competence were classified into four categorie

Educating family physicians to care for the chronically mentally ill.

More than 50 percent of the chronically mentally ill receive their medical, psychiatric, and social support services from primary care physicians in the general health sector. Despite this high level of involvement with these patients, the majority of family physicians consider their training in the management of patients with mental disorders to be inadequate. This paper describes six categories of critical competencies that should be included in the mental health curricula of family physician training programs: therapeutic attitudes and skills, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, functiona

Effect of MyTeen SMS-Based Mobile Intervention for Parents of Adolescents: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: There is global pressure to respond to the burden posed by adolescent mental health problems. The National Mental Health Commission has made a call for investment in mobile health services directed at prevention and early intervention to relieve the demand on targeted mental health services that are costly to provide. Parents and primary caregivers play a significant role in the lives of adolescents and are important targets for such efforts. Currently, there is no evidence for the effectiveness of programs delivered solely via text message for parents of adolescents. OBJECTIVE: T

Enhancing Transition to Nursing Practice: The Mental Health Immersion Experience.

The number of people facing mental health issues continues to grow in the aftermath of COVID-19. Nurses are challenged with providing care for an increasing number of patients, including veterans, with complex mental health needs across healthcare settings. Of concern, many students transitioning into practice feel they lack the necessary confidence, education, and skills to competently care for patients with mental health illness. This article discusses an innovative mental health immersion experience strategically integrated within a new-nurse residency program.

Future Directions for the Advancement of Person-Centered Culturally Responsive Treatment to Support Youth Mental Healthcare Equity.

Youth from minoritized backgrounds face significant inequities in accessing and benefiting from evidence-based mental healthcare. Although decades of research highlight the central role of sociocultural context in shaping mental health needs and treatment outcomes, current evidence-based interventions (EBIs) rarely provide explicit guidance for addressing the intersecting sociocultural experiences of minoritized youth. In this article, we synthesize approaches to culturally responsive care and argue for a shift toward person-centered culturally responsive (PCCR) treatment. PCCR treatment is an

Psychosocial competencies and reasons for living in young adults: implications for suicide prevention from a social determinants of health perspective.

INTRODUCTION: Suicide prevention research has predominantly focused on risk factors, while psychosocial resources that may serve as protective factors have received less attention. From the perspective of social determinants of health, examining such resources may contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of mental health. This study aimed to analyze the relationships between psychosocial competencies and reasons for living among young adults, taking into account selected socio-demographic and family factors. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted between March and June 2025 am

Navigating Faith-based Practices in Therapy: Psychotherapists' Experiences in India.

Addressing clients' faith-based practices (FBPs) is indispensable in psychotherapy, especially in a religiously diverse country like India. This can be particularly challenging in contexts where psychotherapy is highly stigmatized and FBPs are culturally accepted. A review of the literature highlighted a gap in research on how psychotherapists negotiate FBPs in the Indian context. This pilot qualitative study aims to address this gap by exploring the experiences of Indian psychotherapists in navigating FBPs as mental health service providers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 I

An Evaluation of co-Delivered Foundational BPD Training With Health Service Staff.

Individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) are frequent users of mental health services and may be perceived negatively by mental health professionals. Educational training has been associated with improved attitudes towards individuals with this diagnosis, but few interventions have been delivered in collaboration with lived experience experts. This study evaluated an educational intervention for mental health professionals that was delivered with lived experience experts. The impact of the training on staff attitudes, namely personal competence, empathy and treatment optimism was

Peer Mentor Training and Supervision for a Digital Adolescent Depression Treatment in South Africa and Uganda: Mixed Methods Evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Blended digital mental health interventions combining technology with human support are more effective than stand-alone treatments. However, limited research has examined how to train and supervise personnel delivering human support components. The Kuamsha app, a gamified digital intervention for adolescent depression based on behavioral activation, was designed to be paired with low-intensity telephone-based peer support. A structured training and supervision program for peer supporters was codeveloped through workshops with mental health professionals and youth with lived experie

Surrogate Decision-Making in Carceral Healthcare.

The carceral healthcare system is reckoning with a rapidly aging patient population. This is significant because elderly patients are more likely to have medical conditions that render them unable to make their own decisions. Existing laws and ethical guidelines mandate relying on patient-designated and next-of-kin surrogates to make medical decisions for patients who lack decision-making capacity. Yet, providing healthcare to incarcerated patients who lack decisional capacity is especially challenging. As a result, practices vary, and correctional officials, such as wardens or guards, are fre
