Intelligent diagnosis of lung nodule images based on machine learning in the context of lung teaching.

The vast majority of intelligent diagnosis models have widespread problems, which seriously affect the medical staff judgment of patients' injuries. So depending on the situation, you need to use different algorithms, The study suggests a model for intelligent diagnosis of lung nodule images based on machine learning, and a support vector machine-based machine learning algorithm is selected. In order to improve the diagnostic accuracy of intelligent diagnosis of lung nodule images as well as the diagnostic model of lung nodule images. The objectives are broken down into algorithm determination

A novel preoperative image-guided localization for small pulmonary nodule resection using a claw-suture device.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) provides better option concerning pathological diagnosis and curative intention of small pulmonary nodules (SPNs) that are sometimes challenging to localize. We assess the safety and feasibility of a new localization technique for SPNs, and report experience accumulated over time. A retrospective review of the new claw-suture localization cases between February 2018 and May 2023 was performed. Nodules were localized by a novel system that has an anchor claw and a tri-colored suture, guided by computed tomography (CT). Localization and operative proce

Prevalence and consequences of non-adherence to an evidence-based approach for incidental pulmonary nodules.

IMPORTANCE: Distinguishing benign from malignant pulmonary nodules is challenging. Evidence-based guidelines exist, but their impact on patient-centered outcomes is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To understand if the evaluation of incidental pulmonary nodules that follows an evidence-based management strategy is associated with fewer invasive procedures for benign lesions and/or fewer delays in cancer diagnosis. DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. SETTING: Large academic medical center. PARTICIPANTS: Adults (≥18 years age) with an incidental pulmonary nodule discovered between January 2012 and Decemb

[Treatment principle and surgical technique of pulmonary ground glass nodules].

Pulmonary ground glass nodule (GGN) is a term of radiological manifestation, which may be malignant or benign. GGN's imaging performance is diverse, and the management for pulmonary GGN remains controversial. Numerous clinical studies have clarified the safety of GGN follow-up and longer follow-up intervals, stricter surgical or biopsy indications are recommended. In clinical practice, the size of GGN, the size of consolidation, dynamic change during follow-up are the factors that help surgeons to decide the timing of surgery. There are some misunderstandings for the management of GGN, such as

Rheumatoid arthritis with pulmonary accelerated rheumatoid nodules treated by baricitinib: a case-based review.

Pulmonary accelerated rheumatoid nodules (ARN) represent a rare occurrence within the context of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with conventional treatment typically involving corticosteroids. In this report, we present a unique case of pulmonary ARN managed with baricitinib, a Janus kinase inhibitor. The patient, a 46-year-old woman diagnosed with RA, initially displayed no evident pulmonary nodules upon pulmonary imaging. Her treatment regimen encompassed corticosteroids, methotrexate, and leflunomide. Nevertheless, a chest computed tomography (CT) scan conducted after a year unveiled the presen

The impact of cardiopulmonary hemodynamic factors in volumetry for pulmonary nodule management.

BACKGROUND: The acceptance of coronary CT angiogram (CCTA) scans in the management of stable angina has led to an exponential increase in studies performed and reported incidental findings, including pulmonary nodules (PN). Using low-dose CT scans, volumetry tools are used in growth assessment and risk stratification of PN between 5 and 8 mm in diameter. Volumetry of PN could also benefit from the increased temporal resolution of CCTA scans, potentially expediting clinical decisions when an incidental PN is first detected on a CCTA scan, and allow for better resource management and planning in

[Video-assisted thoracic surgical (VATS) biopsy as a technique for differential diagnosis of indeterminate small pulmonary nodules].

The authors experienced two cases of multiple pulmonary tuberculomas, which were suspected of metastatic lung tumors. First patient was a 63-years-old male, who was found to have multiple pulmonary nodular shadows on his check up chest X-ray film, suspected of pulmonary metastases of rectal cancer. VATS biopsy, performed for one of nodules revealed that it was caseating granuloma, suggestive of pulmonary tuberculosis. Second patient was a 55-years-old female with rheumatoid arthritis and a chest X-ray film showed multiple pulmonary nodules, which were thought to be metastatic lung tumor from u

Visceral larval migrans masquerading as metastatic disease in a toddler with Wilms tumor.

A 22-month-old girl with a renal mass had multiple small pulmonary nodules on CT at her initial presentation. After biopsy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy, a Wilms tumor was resected and the pulmonary nodules were shown to have regressed on CT. Follow-up imaging 4 months after initial diagnosis demonstrated multiple new liver lesions and new pulmonary nodules with peripheral eosinophilia. Lung biopsy revealed granuloma formation with prominent eosinophils. The serum antibody titers for Toxocara canis were elevated. This case illustrates that toxocariasis should be considered as a rare differentia

[Differentiation of intra-pulmonary lymph nodes from intra-pulmonary metastasis].

In each case of primary or metastatic lung cancer, CT reveals multiple pulmonary nodules in addition to primary or metastatic lesions. All of these small pulmonary nodules were approximately 5 mm in size and were located in the subpleural region of a lower lobe of the lung. It was difficult to differentiate these small nodules from lung metastases. We were able to confirm that these nodules were subpleural intra-pulmonary lymph nodes by open thoracotomy. It should be noted that small pulmonary nodules in the subpleural region of a lower lobe of the lung might be intra-pulmonary lymph nodes.

Fire or ice - emerging therapies for unresectable pulmonary nodules.

IMPORTANCE: Lung cancer and pulmonary metastases remain the leading cause of cancer-related mortality. While surgery is the gold standard, local tissue-ablative therapies are increasingly used in unresectable disease or inoperable patients. Minimally invasive local control presents a safe, repeatable approach to slow disease progression and prolong survival. OBSERVATIONS: Ablative techniques (radiofrequency, microwave, cryoablation, pulsed electric field) utilize extreme heat, cold, or energy to induce cancer cell death. Traditionally, ablation occurred percutaneously with image guidance, but

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia with multiple hepatic and pulmonary nodular lesions.

A 50-year-old female visited the hospital for further evaluation of multiple pulmonary and hepatic nodules. First, she visited her primary physician for general fatigue due to anemia. She had recurrent epistaxis, and her mother had suffered from hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). Telangiectasias were present in the stomach. This patient was diagnosed with HHT. Computed tomography (CT) revealed multiple pulmonary and hepatic nodules. The pulmonary nodules were due to bleeding from arteriovenous malformations of the lung. Abdominal CT and angiography showed a dilated and meandering hep

[The pulmonary nodule: from incidental finding to pathological confirmation].

As the number of CT examinations of the lungs increases, so does the prevalence of incidentally discovered pulmonary nodules. While most lung nodules are benign, the risk of malignancy significantly rises with the presence of risk factors and specific imaging features. Upon encountering an incidental nodule, efforts should focus on achieving an accurate pathological diagnosis, particularly to ascertain malignancy while minimizing the risks associated with unnecessary diagnostic procedures. A comprehensive understanding of the typical characteristics and behavior of malignant lung nodules, alon

[Common issues and solutions in intraoperative frozen pathological diagnosis of small pulmonary nodules].

With the development of chest CT screening, surgically resected lung tumors have shifted from predominantly large masses to predominantly small nodules. The intraoperative frozen diagnosis of pulmonary small nodules faces many challenges, such as the accurate understanding about the concepts of adenocarcinoma in situ, minimally invasive adenocarcinoma and lepidic adenocarcinoma, as well as their differential diagnosis with small size invasive adenocarcinoma, benign tumors (such as bronchiolar adenoma, sclerosing pneumocytoma, etc.), metastatic tumors and so on. This study summarizes some commo

Ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid tissue mimicking metastatic tissue.

BACKGROUND: Ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid is extremely rare, with only about two cases reported in the literature. These cases were found either during the work-up of a solitary pulmonary nodule or at autopsy. Here, we report a case of ectopic intrapulmonary thyroid mimicking multiple pulmonary metastases from an endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the uterus. PATIENT FINDINGS: A 50-year-old woman presented with dysmenorrhea and menorrhagia. Endometrial curettage of the uterus revealed an endometrioid adenocarcinoma. During the staging, multiple pulmonary nodules were found. To exclude the possib

Rare Pulmonary MALT Lymphomas and Its Differential Diagnosis On Chest CT.

Pulmonary nodules caused by mucosa-associated lymphomas (MALT lymphomas) are uncommon, comprising for less than 0.5% of all primary lung tumors. While biopsy is the main method for diagnosing the disease, the significance of differential pulmonary diagnosis based on imaging is often overlooked. In this report, we present a case of a patient with multiple disseminated nodules in the lungs, as well as severe anemia and incidental involvement of multiple lymph nodes. We discuss the differential diagnosis of pulmonary MALT lymphomas on computed tomography (CT) images and emphasize the significance

A large pulmonary nodule in a rheumatoid arthritis patient treated with tofacitinib.

Pulmonary rheumatoid nodules are rare extra-articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). They are usually asymptomatic but may form cavities and cause clinical symptoms. These nodules are difficult to differentiate clinically and radiologically from tuberculosis, fungal infection, or lung malignancies. Histopathological studies help in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary nodules in patients with RA; however, an effective treatment for rheumatoid lung nodules has not yet been established. This study reports a case of active RA with interstitial lung disease and a large inflammator
