In this paper we show that both music composition and brain function, as revealed by the electroencephalogram (EEG) analysis, are renewal non-Poisson processes living in the nonergodic dominion. To reach this important conclusion we process the data with the minimum spanning tree method, so as to detect significant events, thereby building a sequence of times, which is the time series to analyze. Three cases of haemoptysis amongst musical wind instrument players encountered in last five years are reported. None had an identifiable pathology in lungs. Detailed investigations including computed tomography of chest and fibreoptic bronchoscopy were normal. We report an interesting case of aortic regurgitation. Phonocardiographically, the shape of the diastolic musical murmur in this case changed in each cardiac cycle despite being in sinus rhythm, in the same posture and in the same breathing phase. In August 1988, an estimated 3,175 women who attended a 5-day outdoor music festival in Michigan became ill with gastroenteritis caused by Shigella sonnei. Onset of illness peaked 2 days after the festival ended, and patients were spread throughout the United States by the time the outbreak was recognized. The association between musical hallucinations, depression and acquired hearing loss is described in two elderly patients. Following the presentation of this underdiagnosed clinical phenomenon we propose that musical hallucinations should be addressed as a final outcome of several factors including both mental and physical components. This conceptual framework enhances our understanding and treatment of such phenomena.
