Rhabdomyolysis is a potentially life-threatening clinical syndrome characterized by the breakdown of skeletal muscle cells and release of creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and myoglobin into the plasma and interstitial space. Rhabdomyolysis can occur due to a variety of causes and acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of its most dreaded complications occurring in 33%-50% patients. The extent of oxygen release from two heme proteins, haemoglobin and myoglobin have been studied in the presence of trifluoperazine and chlorpromazine (5-1000 microM). At a molar ratio (drug:protein) of 1.5, the release of oxygen from haemoglobin was 4 and 15% in the presence of chlorpromazine and trifluoperazine respectively, while from myoglobin the corresponding values were 20 and 40%. The findings were attributed to the greater extent of local conformational change around tryptophan moieties of each of the proteins induced by trifluoperazine.

Legionella pneumophila is a cause of both community- and hospital-acquired pneumonia and might cause high morbidity and mortality. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment with appropriate antibiotics is crucial. Many clinical and laboratory abnormalities can be observed in the course of Legionella pneumonia. In this study, we aimed to present simultaneously increased serum ferritin and myoglobin level in a legionella case with reference to the relevant literature.

A total of 230 patients admitted to Moscow city hospitals were examined to study the diagnostic value of a kit "Diagnosticum for the detection of erythrocytic myoglobin, dry". It is known that methamphetamine (MA) causes rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinuria, and acute renal failure. We conducted an immunohistochemical study on the kidney of 22 forensic autopsy cases in which MA had been detected. Myoglobin was positive in 17 cases.
