Chiral lithium binaphtholates prepared from the corresponding binaphthols and lithium tert-butoxide effectively catalyze the asymmetric Michael additions of ketones to poorly reactive acrylamides. A survey of the 'Tie and Dye' industry of Jodhpur City in India was made to investigate occupational dermatoses. 49 (16.6%) of 250 workers had incapacitating dermatitis. Skin lesions were seen mostly over the dorsa of the hands and fingers. 26 patients were patch tested with various dyes and chemicals; 14 were positive. Fast Red RC salt was the most potent sensitizer. Other dyes showing positive reactions were Orange GC salt, Bordeaux GP salt, Blue B salt, Red B base and naphthol.

In order to study the specificity of the contraluminal sulfate transport system the inhibitory potency of salicylate analogs (5 mmol/l each) on the 35SO4(2-) influx from the interstitium into cortical tubular cells in situ has been determined. Pathological changes in the skin, of allergic type, have been detected in 35 of 131 weavers, employed in the production of primarily texas textiles. Several model azo dyes are reductively cleaved by growing cultures of an ascomycete yeast species, Issatchenkia occidentalis.
