Odontogenic keratocysts in the anterior maxilla: report of two cases, one simulating a nasopalatine cyst.

Two odontogenic keratocysts occurring in the anterior portion of the maxilla, an unusual location, are reported. In one instance, the clinical and radiographic features simulated a nasopalatine cyst. It is suggested that a likely origin for an odontogenic keratocyst in this location is the primordium of a mesiodens that fails to develop.

[Methods of diagnosis of non-specific and specific lymphideniates of the jaw-facial part in children (literature review)].

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: Insufficient basic knowledge on the mechanisms of the multifactoral etiology and pathogenesis of various forms of maxillofacial lymphadenitis of odontogenic and non-odontogenic nature in children causes difficulties in making differential diagnosis. The algorithm of their examination involves a large number of methods, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages with variable informativeness, depending on the particular situation. The aim: The paper is aimed atfamiliarization of broad medical public with informativeness of diagnostic measures in the nonspeci

[Our experience in the study and treatment of globulomaxillary cysts].

Globulomaxillary cysts are epithelial-lined sacs formed at the junction of the globular and maxillary processes between the lateral incisor and canine teeth. As with the other fissural cysts, there is controversy about the origin of the globulomaxillary cyst. Treatment is surgical and consists of careful excision.

Large median palatine cyst.

Median palatine cyst is a rare fissural cyst of nonodontogenic origin located in the midline of the hard palate, posterior to the palatine papilla. Only 21 cases have been reported in the literature, and documented here is a median palatine cyst of the largest dimension thus far.A 14-year-old male patient presented with a 5 × 5-cm(3) mass distal to the palatine papilla of 5 years' duration. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 5.3 × 4.6 × 4.2-cm(3) cystic mass involving the midline of the hard palate. Complete enucleation of the cyst was performed with no recurrence, but an oronasal fistula d

Benign odontogenic tumors of the mandible and maxilla.

Benign odontogenic tumors are characterized by imaging findings of expansile growth and well-defined margins with smooth borders, and their appearance is very similar to that of odontogenic and nonodontogenic cysts. From the viewpoint of diagnostic imaging of odontogenic tumors, teeth are designed differently according to their origin from the apex or crown. Therefore, for differential diagnosis, it is necessary to select diagnostic methods that make it possible to evaluate these findings in detail. Intraoral and panoramic radiography are highly effective in examining the relationship between …

A new transnasal approach to endoscopic marsupialization of the nasolabial cyst.

OBJECTIVE: Nasolabial cyst is a mucus-secreting, nonodontogenic cyst in the nasofacial area. It is usually situated behind the ala nasi, extending backward beneath the nasal floor into the inferior meatus and forward into the labio-gingival sulcus behind the upper lip. Patients with nasolabial cysts generally undergo surgical removal of the cyst via a transoral sublabial approach. This article reports a simple, less invasive surgical procedure for the treatment of nasolabial cysts. STUDY DESIGN: A transnasal endoscopic marsupialization method was designed to treat patients with nasolabial cys

Relative incidence of odontogenic tumors and oral and jaw cysts in a Canadian population.

The diagnoses of 40,000 consecutively accessioned oral biopsies from the Oral Pathology Diagnostic Service, University of Western Ontario, London, Canada, were reviewed. All odontogenic neoplasm, neoplasm-like lesions (tumors), and true cysts of the oral tissues and jaws were listed. Clinical data were reviewed, and microscopic diagnoses were confirmed for cases in which diagnoses were ambiguous. Records of all cases were examined to identify distant referrals that were not representative of the study population. Of a total of 445 (1.11%) odontogenic tumors, 392 (0.98%) were lesions from patie

Median cysts of the jaws--not a true clinical entity.

The so-called median cysts of the jaws (median mandibular and median palatine) are currently classified as fissural cysts. Their existence as distinct clinical and histological entities has been the cause of debate. It is the purpose of this paper to point out that from present evidence in published case reports and reviews of the literature, the presence of these cysts in the midline of the jaws is a random finding. It is suggested that the title median mandibular and median palatine cysts should be discontinued and that cysts at these sites should be labelled according to their particular hi
