Based upon the present inability to describe the mechanism by which calcification takes place, and the unexplored metabolism of calcium during trichinosis, studies of rat bone involvement were undertaken. 2. OBJECTIVE: Wear-induced osteolysis is a leading cause of late failure in total hip arthroplasty (THA). Denosumab, a RANKL inhibitor, suppresses osteoclast activity and may slow osteolytic progression. This feasibility study aimed to assess the practicality of conducting a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating Denosumab's effect on periprosthetic osteolysis in asymptomatic THA patients.

CASE: An 82-year-old woman underwent right total knee replacement with a sequentially irradiated and annealed highly cross-linked polyethylene insert. At 9 years, she was found to have a massive femoral osteolysis with an impending fracture.
CONCLUSION: This case demonstrates a rare occurrence of massive femoral osteolysis, requiring revision surgery, with a sequentially irradiated and annealed highly cross-linked polyethylene.

The management of a previously reported case of massive osteolysis of the mandible with intravenous bisphosphonate, vascularized free bone graft, and dental implants is reported. Restoration of adequate cosmetics and masticatory function was achieved. Despite the use of bisphosphonates, there were no complications with osseointegration. The reconstruction remained stable and functional 6 years afterward.
