Midazolam was used for prolonged sedation in ten adult patients with severe tetanus in the Intensive Care Unit for periods ranging from 10 to 50 days. An infusion was started soon after induction and adjusted according to clinical needs. The anesthetic management of 17 patients undergoing cardiac transplantation is described. Recipients had severe biventricular failure and pulmonary hypertension. A line of studies in the 1960s-1980s suggested that muscle relaxants do not work uniformly on all skeletal muscles, though its mechanism has not been clarified. A continuous infusion of ketamine, following an initial dose of 1 mg/kg, has been used as sole anaesthetic in over 200 adult patients.
