Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a state of pre-diabetic impaired glucose tolerance initially occurring during pregnancy. Although abnormalities in glucose metabolism normally resolve rapidly after delivery, women with GDM have a higher lifetime risk of developing diabetes mellitus than those without GDM; thus, postpartum healthcare is essential. Two methods, the carbol fuchsin with acetic acid differentiation and the periodic acid-carbol pararosaniline, were used for demonstrating leprosy bacilli in skin smears. Bacillary smears from 200 long-treated patients with tuberculoid, borderline and lepromatous leprosy were stained with periodic acid-carbol pararosaniline.
